New York: Ives Washburn, Inc., 1958., 1958. First edition. First U.S. edition. Light foxing to a few pages and to fly-leafs else fine in moderately foxed dust jacket with light wear to toe of lightly sunned spine. Apparently no one, including Det. Supt. Manton, saw the defendant in a murder trial shot through the heart just as he was about to give important evidence. But why did Maisie Jenks scream out seconds before the gun went off? And why did a juror run out of the courtroom seconds after the victim lay dead on the floor, the revolver beside him? Insp. Manton;s investigation of these very baffling circumstances provides a new and ingenious mystery that unfolds at a fast pace.

New York: Mysterious Bookshop, [2021]., 2021. First edition. First edition. One of 100 copies issued in cloth, numbered and signed by the author. As new, unread copy in dust jacket. In the weeks after the death of her father, bestselling horror writer Rene Duke, Pip Duke’s inner demons have become too much to bear. Overwhelmed by her thoughts, Pip has checked herself into Sheltering Oaks, an in-patient therapy center, but the staff there is every bit as suspicious and untrustworthy as the people she hoped to escape. Plus, according to her more pessimistic personae, there are those who would prefer she stayed in the hospital indefinitely, since her mental incapacity could serve as grounds for relinquishing her inheritance; her father's publishers want Pip released as soon as possible, to lend credibility to the "lost manuscripts" they hope to produce to keep the cash from the Duke franchise rolling in. In order to separate the truth from all those whispering lies, Pip… Read More
