Garden City Ny: Doubleday, Page and Co, 1921 this is the 1st issue(bibliography-Russo,Sullivan) with page 419 issue point with the words "you why" instead of "why you". No dustjacket with this book(check my other listings for a later printing with its orginal dj). Covers still has its brick brown color, but they are lightly soiled, with all its black lettering intact, soiled spine with light shelf wear, covers also have light shelf wear, inside the hinge bottom is showing the webbing(could be fixed while inserting the Autograph),but no foxing or stains, a small bookstore sticker on the inside front cover bottom. webbing showing pg. 138-139. This book has its original dustjacket stated 9th edition on the spine of the dustjacket,the dj is lightly soiled and has edgewear and minor chipping,price intact.This book has vey few spots of foxing inside and has 2 title pages,minor shelfwear,dj is protected in mylar,BOOK ALSO HAS LIGHT SHELFWEAR AT THE EDGES. BONUS: included is an autographed special edition of The Gentleman from Indiana 1900,the book is falling apart but has a handsigned and numbered bookplate on the inside front cover which could be removed and used elsewhere. This is a nice replacement/gap filler for the $25,000 1st edition with dj.. Signed by Author. Hard Cover.

This one is a bit dirty on page ends and light foxing and finger smudges inside covers and a few pages. My cheapest 1st Ed of this title(I have a few) just search and find the one for you.. Please see photos. 1st leaf has the long inscription/Signature/Place and Date. Near fine, has brusied spine ends because no DJ, and minor rubbing to extreme edges a marker can fix.
One by One Edition, copyright has 1922, title page has 1937 and the inscription has June 1938 so no idea what printing.

INSIDE THIS COPY IS A GLUED IN TYPED LETTER THAT I HAVE HEARD ABOUT MANY TIMES, BUT THE DIFFERENCE IS THIS LETTER IS SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, BOOTH TARKINGTON. THE LETTER IS TO HIS SISTER ASKING FOR AN HOUR TO AMUSE HER WITH THIS PLAY. BOOTH WAS A PLAYWRIGHT BEFORE A NOVELIST. I DO NOT HAVE THE COPYRIGHT INFO FOR THIS BOOK BECAUSE OF THE LETTER, BUT MORE INTEREST SHOULD BE PAID TOWARD IT,INSTEAD OF THE BOOK. BUT CONDITION DOES MATTER. RED CLOTH COVERS WITH GOLD LETTERING,GOLD GILT TOP END,SEVERAL 2 COLOR PLATES,ONE COMING LOOSE. THERE IS WEAR TO THE EDGES AND BUMPING TO THE SPINE ENDS,LIGHTLY SOILED,INSIDE THE FRONT COVER IS THE BOOKPLATE BELONGING TO GEORGE P. ANTHES ??? COVERS HAVE LIGHT SOILING AS WELL.

With the 1ssue point on page 419, 30,000 copies, but I discovered about 20 years ago there are different states within that error printing. It deals with the copyright date. I discovered there are 3 different states. 1921 regular, "flying 192 is higher than the 1, and 92 is higher with milled corners(i sold both of those and lost 1). This book has the "flying" 192 as seen in the photos. I have seen 4 copies so far of this error but I do not know how many were published or how rare, but it is a variant needed by all who collect this title. The book itself has no repairs done to keep it original, has a slight lean due to slight looseness. Color, etc is same as 1st issue(size as well). Rubbing to the edges, bumped bottom front corner, spine ends has wear minute tears and wear to the corners and bottom edge(slightly). See photos for the details, need more just ask.

Special edition to celebrate the merger of Doubleday and Doran Publishing houses. It is signed by Fred N. Doubleday(author and Publisher) George H. Doran(author and Publisher) and Booth Tarkington(author). Rare for the 2 publishers signatures and nice they are. The covers are soiled but inside is Near Fine.

BLUEISH HARD CLOTH WITH BLACK LETTERING, REPRINT UNKNOWN BUT EARLIEST g&d WAS 1905, THIS COPY HAS BEEN SIGNED BY bOOTH WITH SIGNATURE ONLY 1ST LEAF. BOOK HAS LIGHT SOILING AND MINOR SHELFWEAR. UNREAD TIGHTNESS, SQUARE AND VERY CLEAN WITH SIGNATURE ONLY MARKS. COULD BE CLEANED UP.

PLEASE SEE PHOTOS. I personally like this edition it is better made than the first edition and will last a long time(almost 100 years old now).

Making this a Mix State 1st Edition. The limitation page from the Autograph Collection of the Works has been tipped in, this being #115 of 565 copies.Book: Maroon cloth with black lettering, small stain top spine cloth with both ends having small tears, Top 1 and fraying at the tear, Bottom 3 and fraying at the tears and pushed in cloth. faded cloth in the front gutter and previous owner's name in ink 1st leaf. Check the pictures it is a very nice book.Comes with an unfinished wood book with a magnet closure lid. Be careful rubbing your across the edges because it is unfinished with your personal touch. It protects the book from UV light damage.
