Kenzo Takada, one of the most extravagant fashion designers of the 20th century, was born in 1939 in the town of Himeji, Japan. In 1970, he opened his first boutique in the Galerie Vivienne, surprising the French public with his bold aesthetic of bright colours and contrasting patterns. Inspired by the emerging haute couture designers of the time, such as Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld, Kenzo became one of the leading designers in Paris, changing the standards and tastes of the decade.
Throughout his life, Takada referred to Japanese culture to varying degrees. Starting in 2010, Kenzo held his art exhibitions around the world, showcasing his series of flower-printed kimonos reminiscent of the motifs for which his brand is known. Harry Truman became President on Roosevelt's sudden death on April 12, 1945, and it was Anthony Eden who represented Great Britain at Roosevelt's funeral. Both volumes were published, and donated, during Eden's term as Prime Minister (April 1955 to January 1957). Truman had just completed his second term as President of the United States (April 12, 1945, then November 2, 1948 to January 20, 1953).
