This is a handsome, fine binding set of the "Life of DANIEL WEBSTER" by George Ticknor Curtis. 1870 2nd edition (stated); D. Appleton and Company; New York. With engraved frontispiece portraits of Webster in both volumes, and a few other in-text illustrations. Complete set in two volumes. Nicely bound in three-quarter leather with marbled covers, five raised bands on the spine, marbled page edges on all sides, and marbled end papers. There is an Index at the back of volume II.Condition:Some light rubbing of the marbled paper on the covers; there are a few small scratches to the leather on the spines. The lettering on the author/volume labels on spines has partially faded. There is a 1" strip at the outer edge of the back cover of volume II where the marbled paper has peeled up. Both volumes are tightly bound with no cracks and no loose pages. Both volumes have clean interiors - the pages are clean and white with no condition issues found. Overall a very nice set.

This is a wonderful, handmade album with dozens of illustrations depicting Madonna (a representation of Mary) with her child, Jesus, by various artists. The album is dated 1886 and titled "A ROSARY OF MADONNAS" - it was made by "Robertson Trowbridge" for "Elvira Kellogg Trowbridge" (I was unable to conclusively establish the relationship between Robertson and Elvira). Each page contains the following: a clipped image of Madonna with Jesus; the name of the artist, and the years of the artist's birth/death; the location where the original painting resides; lines of verse from a noted poet. There are 85 pages in all. Artists include Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and many others. Poets include Geoffrey Chaucer, Lord Byron, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, John Milton, and many others.
