New York: Lehmann Maupin 2001, 2001. Large 4to, 64pp, 72 colour plates (inc 2 gatefolds). Fine in cream cloth with black and caramel stamps in grey card slipcase. The first, and only, edition of this legendary and much-cited photography book. It is Teller's record of the 1999 Miss World competition where he photographed each contestant. The portraits are all close-ups and are reproduced here in a highly polished and glossy form. The atmosphere of brittle unreality which hangs over beauty contests and where we see only a heavily worked artificiality is cleverly captured in these celebrated images. Lots of hair and teeth. A signed and numbered edition of 500 - this is 300/500. Fine

Uncut in original pale brown paper paper wrappers, rebacked, title reprinted within wide decorative border on upper cover, imprint within same border on lower cover. Description:
n.p. n.p. 1849, 1841. Four sheets of vellum with fine 19th century law copyist's italic handwriting. 715x570mm. The sheets are bound together at the foot of each sheet with green ribbon and thread. The seal of the South Staffordshire Company (on red wax) is rather cracked while that of the LNWR is on red seal paper. The final page of the document is a plan. The whole is lovely condition, clean, fresh and clear. This is an agreement between The London and North Western Railway Company and The South Staffordshire Railway Company. The LNWR had been formed in 1846 out of the merger of various smaller railway companies. The 1830s and early 1840s had been a chaotic time in the creation of the rail industry as many different companies were vying for new lines and the huge profits they could bring. The present agreement is to enable the South Staffordshire Railway to run its traffic over over line owned by the LNWR between Walsall Junction and Birmingham and to use LNWR buildings at Vauxhall near… Read More

Description:
Various Various Various, 1999. An archive of material relating to the Stuckists, including originals of the various manifestos, a signed copy of Remodernism, advertisements and invitations to various Stuckist exhibitions and events, including leaflets and programmes for events organised by the Maidstone Poets, some of whom founded the Stuckists. A fascinating collection which traces the history and ideas of this radical, provocative and counter-cultural "anti-movement". The Stuckists were founded by Charles Thomson and Billy Childish on 4th August 1999 with the publication of the Stuckist Manifesto in which they declared themselves to be "Against conceptualism, hedonism and the cult of the ego-artist". Their name refers to a comment by Tracey Emin (an ex-girlfriend of Childish) whose "My Bed" had been shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1999: "Your paintings", she accused Childish, "are stuck, you are stuck! Stuck! Stuck! Stuck!". Emin, together with Damien Hurst bore the brunt of much Stuckist… Read More

Description:
London: Brickhill and Bateman 1865, 1865. Slightly expanded English edition following the American edition of 1863. 179x118mm. pp. 50, [i]. Lacking the original wrappers so the title page is the cover page. Tear with loss (but not to text) to the top of the front page. Tear without loss to back page. Some creasing to the corners but otherwise this fragile item is in very good condition. Illustrated with engravings. Despite the flaws in this copy, this is a good copy of a rare work which is not often found in its English edition. This is an eccentric work in pamphlet form about Charles S. Stratton, also known as General Tom Thumb (1838-1883), who was a dwarf who worked at Barnum's Circus. This biography tells of the complicated love arrangements between Stratton, his friend Commodore Nutt and Lavinia Warren. Nutt, also a dwarf loved Lavinia but she chose to marry Thumb. The wedding was a lavish ceremony masterminded by Barnum with Nutt as best man. Nutt befriended (not romantically it seems)… Read More
