Description:
London: J. Matthews for G. S. Sawbridge, 1715. Hardcover. Good. Octavo, 424pp., illustrated. A good smoker's copy in contemporary brown calf. Spine ends worn, spine darkened and the book's outer joints a bit loose, but holding. Internally bright and clean with hardly any foxing. Previous owner's name on the title page, not obscuring any text. A sturdy, unsophisticated, unrestored example.

Description:
[Brandreth Lake, New York], [`904]. Two sepia prints, each measuring about 4.75" x 3.75", mounted to cardstock with about 1" border. Prints in very good condition, with mild fading to edges (though this may be the quality of the exposure). One mount has a corner chip, else in excellent condition. The two images depict three figures in a fishing canoe, who are helpfully named in contemporary pencil on the verso of both images. The verso text reads: "Taken by Frederick Potter, May, 1904, at Brandreth Lake. Wm. H. Taft, in the stern of the boat, H. C. Hollister in the bow. Curt Hull, Guide." At the time, Taft was serving as Theodore Roosevelt's Secretary of War. Howard C. Hollister was an Ohio jurist, and when Taft became President, he appointed Hollister to a newly created position as District Court Judge for Southern Ohio. For those who celebrate the whimsy of presidential politics and history, it's worth noting that the images do indeed depict the 27th president's ability to displace water.

Description:
Calcutta: I. C. Bose & Co. [for the author], 1879. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Octavo, 113pp. A very good copy in contemporary 3/4 black leather over black cloth. Binding chipped at the rear crown joint (about the size of a dime), some spotting to the front board, else a clean, crisp copy internally. A wonderful and quite scarce volume of Indian music, with lyrics in an Indian language (Bengali?) with English transliterations. In addition to the printed music, there are descriptions in English of various types of Indian music, written for the uninitiated. A bound-in leaf, printed in blue with a red border, presents the work to "His Excellency the Right Hon/ble Edward Robert Lytton, Bulwer-Lytton, Baron Lytton of Knebworth, G-M-S-I Viceroy and Governor-General of India &c., &c, &c." "as an offering of my deep-felt gratitude and devoted loyalty." A work of pride by a Calcutta printer. Rare in commerce.

Description:
New York: Harper and Brothers, 1924. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good +/near fine. Large octavo, 418pp, illustrated. A crisp copy, very good or better, with some foxing to the title page and frontispiece, and an erased pencil mark to the title page. There are several isolated pencil notations in the margins throughout; nothing disfiguring, and all erasable with a little effort. Otherwise bright, crisp, and clean. In the rare dust jacket, near fine, with only the most trivial edgewear. This in-depth genealogy of the Lincoln family complicates the old myths about Lincoln's dirt-poor origins, revealing his familial links to the early years of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Tarbell was perhaps the journalist best suited for this task; her forensic study of the Standard Oil Company two decades earlier was the first modern example of muckraking journalism.

Description:
Chicago: Ziff-Davis, 1949. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Oblong quarto, 42pp., illustrated. A good copy only, with wear to the corners and the fragile spne and hinges loosened, though still a sound copy. A sticker is applied to the top corner of the front free endpaper. A wonderful example, SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Taylor on the front free endpaper: "For the Old Master, a small return for Jeeves. Deems Taylor." Considering the Jeeves reference, the "Old Master" could be none other than P. G. Wodehouse, who was--and still is--called "Master" or sometimes "The Old Master" by his ardent fans. Wodehouse had a short, but influential career in the 1910s on Broadway as a lyricist, and maintained a love of music and musical comedy throughout his life; a passion that no doubt brought him in contact with people like Deems Taylor. Despite is worn state, a copy with a pleasing association.

Description:
New York: Duell, Sloan, & Pierce, 1946. Later printing. Hardcover. Good/good. Square octavo, 77pp., illustrated by Elizabeth Taylor. No printing statement, and jacket price of $2.00 suggests a later printing. A good copy only, with notable dampastaining to the boards and the dust jacket, though the contents are clean and sound. This copy SIGNED boldly by Taylor on the front free endpaper in a much later hand, slightly shaky, and typical of her later autographs: "Best Wishes and love, Elizabeth Taylor." The inscription does not match any autopen examples we've seen, and we presume it to be genuine. All signatures offered by us are guaranteed for life. "Nibbles" was the teenage Taylor's pet chipmunk.
