A very good copy, spine curved but the binding is tight, browning and spotting to the paper stock. This book comes from the collection of Walter Stein, a British writer, literary critic and Catholic moral philosopher. Born in 1922, Stein was a Jewish refugee from pre-war Austria, educated by the Quakers in York and eventually a Catholic convert who worked in the Department of Extramural Studies at Leeds University. In very good condition, gathers A-D are especially fresh, the others show some browning and spotting. The number 6 and a tick inscribed to the title page where an inscribed author's name has been rubbed out through the paper, number 80 added to the advertisement page. A Certificate of Apprenticeship issued by Bradford Technical College, which is attractively produced with the college coats of arms embossed to the front covers, marbled end papers and edges, and includes five photographic plates mounted on card showing the college engineering workshop, pattern shop, junior drawing office and testing laboratory. Near fine, small stains along the top edge of the lower cover being the only blemish. The publication is undated and there are no details of ownership: the certificate has not been completed and the envelope to the front pastedown is empty. A very smart memento of college achievement.
