Housed in a pale green folding portfolio inside a matching paper covered slipcase. A few faint spots to endpapers, along edges and to rear cover, otherwise a lovely example.||‘Sylvie’ – the story of a hero who falls in love with three women, all of whom he loses – was first published in 1853 in the periodical ‘La Revue des Deux Mondes’ and later in Nerval’s final collection of prose works, Les Filles du Feu, which was published shortly before he committed suicide in 1855.| Gérard Nerval’s prose masterpiece

Printed at the Blue Mill on a Heidelberg press from Bembo types on French Creme Blanc paper. 8vo., [16 x23 cms], original quarter blue cloth over blue patterned paper covered boards, lettering in gilt to spine, which is mildly faded. A good copy.|||

Original aquatint etching by Julian Trevelyan of Hammersmith Bridge with a red painted moon. 13.7 x 9.6 cms. Etching on the front and folded with note by Mary Fedden on the inside in black ink “Love from Julian and Mary. Addressed - I promise! before your charming sheep arrived, and just waiting to be delivered! Mxx||Hammersmith Bridge is very close to where Trevelyan and Fedden lived together and he used it for several of his prints. The red painted moon is very typical and can be seen in several Trevelyan prints.|

Three volumes. 116 colour facsimile leaves reproduced by collotype and hand-stencil colour, the text of the poems reproduced from copper-plate with 3 additional printings to reproduce Blake’s pencillings and the tone of the paper. Folio, original morocco backed marbled boards in marbled paper covered slipcases. Slight fading with a couple of small marks to the spines, otherwise very good.||In this, one of Blake’s most extravagant tours de force, he took Gray’s poems as a springboard for epic watercolors. Mounting the text on a large sheet, he painted all around the margins some of his most powerful and striking designs. The illustrations to a poem on the death of a favorite cat drowned in a goldfish bowl and the Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College, for example, are a classic example of his visionary powers transcending the prosaic.
