A play that debuted at Queen's Theatre on January 22, 1870, in five acts, an historical drama set in the period 1553-58. ~TTT~ Tom Taylor (1817-1880) was an English dramatist, critic, biographer, public servant, and editor of Punch magazine. He wrote about 100 plays during his career, including Our American Cousin (1858), famous as the play which was being performed in the presence of American President Abraham Lincoln when he was assassinated in 1865. This historical drama is considered among Taylor's best.
