FIRST EDITION 1903, small 8vo, 128 x 80 mm, 5 x 3 inches, light green cloth striped and lettered dark green, 95 pages including title page, no half-title or list of Dumpies, neither called for in this volume. Frontispiece and 23 delightful colour plates. 3 little goblins sent out into the wide world by their father on a quest to find a red feather stolen from him long ago by the fairies. They have frightening experiences (they are nearly fried on toast for a Giant's breakfast and they kill a dragon). No inscriptions, cloth lightly marked, spine slightly darkened, stitching rather slack, inner joints cracked, binding holding, 2 tiny grazed spots on facing pages 58/59 due to adhesion (see image). Binding slightly rubbed, inner hinges neatly strengthened with cloth by binder, 2 tiny repairs to original endpaper, library number to tail of spine rubbed away leaving small mark, small oval blind library stamp to top corner of title page and 1 other within, hardly noticeable, no other library marks, a few very light fingermarks to margins, small crease to to some lower blank corners, folding map has folds neatly repaired on blank side, no loss of image or text, otherwise a good sturdy copy, no loose pages. SECOND EDITION circa 1947, dated from adverts on the lower panel of the dustwrapper, first published in 1935. 4to, 250 x 185 mm, 10 x 7¼ inches, red backed colour illustrated boards, silver lettered spine, 87 pages. Coloured frontispiece and 23 full page attractive coloured illustrations by Ludwig Richter. These are in archaic style and partially colour printed to imitate handcolouring. 5 fairy tales not translated into English before 1935. No inscriptions, near Fine in very good DUSTWRAPPER (dw: not price clipped, very slightly chipped at head and tail of spine, a couple of small closed edge tears, white spine slightly darkened, a few slight marks to upper and lower panels).
