Washington, D.C.: U.S. Government Priinting Office, 1988. First. Softcover. Near Fine. The Iran-Contra affair, often referred to as the Iran-Contra scandal, was a political scandal in the United States that occurred during the second term of the Reagan administration. Between 1981 and 1986, senior administration officials secretly facilitated the illegal sale of arms to Iran, who was subjected to an arms embargo at the time. The official justification for the arms shipments was that they were part of an operation to free seven US hostages being held in Lebanon by Hezbollah, an Islamist paramilitary group with Iranian ties connected to the Islamic… Read More

Published by the author, 1891. First (only) edition, fifth thousand. Near Fine. Charles J Scofield (1853-1953) was a lifelong resident of Illinois, who became first a circuit court judge (1886-93) and then an appelate court judge (1893-97) He also served as a lay pastor for his church for many years He wrote this religious novel in the midst of his court service, but it is not clear how successful it may have been However, the fact that at least 5,000 copies were produced suggests at least a modest popularity This copy is near fine in dark blue cloth with gilt title and border on the spine and the author's facsimile signature in gilt on the front cover It was quite attractively bound with floral endpapers and marbling on the page edges all around Slight edge wear, primarily at spine ends, but no marks or damage at all 640 pp.

Giacomo Girolamo Casanova (1725 â€" 1798) was an Italian adventurer and author from the Republic of Venice His autobiography, Histoire de ma vie (Story of My Life), is regarded as one of the most authentic sources of the customs and norms of European social life during the 18th century As was not uncommon at the time, Casanova, depending on circumstances, used more or less fictitious names, such as baron or count of Farussi (the maiden name of his mother) or Chevalier de Seingalt He often signed his works as 'Jacques Casanova de Seingalt' after he began writing in French following his second exile from Venice He has become so famous for his often complicated and elaborate affairs with women that his name is now synonymous with "womanizer" He associated with European royalty, popes, and cardinals, along with the artistic figures Voltaire, Goethe, and Mozart He spent his last years in the Dux Chateau (Bohemia) as a librarian in Count… Read More
