Very good in original, somewhat soiled, brick colored cloth with gilt lettering and decorations in green on front board and spine (no dust jacket). Bookplate on front pastedown; page edges are soiled and a little spotted. Endpapers darkened and slightly foxed. Includes many illustrations, and ads at rear; 244 numbered page plus other end material. Hinges are tight and book is square; no writing in book.

Tiny spot of blue color at bottom edge of pages near the hinge which is from the blue cloth board (probably one drop of water). The jacket has an even smaller blue spot on interior at foot of spine, and a couple of small scratches to the front panel. $5.50 price on front flap; a tight, square copy.

Two pages darkened from book review laid in (the NY Times book review is still with the book), otherwise the book is fine. Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper: "March 1940/To Nancy:/This will tell you/how not to win a million/dollars; and how to get /your man./Bill Rapp". Nancy is the name on the bookplate. Rapp was a playwright, journalist, and novelist; probably best known as the co-author (with Wallace Thurman) of the play - Harlem: A Melodrama of Negro Life in Harlem.

The top of the spine is bumped slightly on the book and jacket, and the boards and endpapers are a little darkened. Includes hand drawn map endpapers, numerous photographs, and an "index-bibliography"; 133 pages. This copy is signed on a small square of paper by the author, and the paper has been affixed to the half title page. A scarce title, especially in the original hardcover edition, and even scarcer with the author's signature.

Foredge of pages a little soiled; pencil notation on blank third front endpaper. The porice clipped jacket is missing a large chip on the front panel (most of the word "Cross" is missing), with smaller chips along the top of the rear panel. Illustrated by Robert Camp, Jr. Laid in is the author's obituary from a Kansas City newspaper.
