1938. Soft cover. Fine. Not a book. Nice group of six locomotive glossy photos (b/w & sepia) and one color litho train post card. Sizes range from 2 ¼" x 5 ¾" to wider & longer. Porter Brothers locomotive #200 has stamp of Davenport Locomotive Works on the back, with some soiling / staining on the back. Also, Youngstown and Northern #105, Marcellus & Otisco Lake #1, Ferro-Carril de Matanzas , N Y & N #22, F. C. el Estado de Chile (photo overexposed & difficult to read). The post card item is unused, Broadway Limited Pennsylvania Railroad System. These are in an old envelope mailed from A. Hriz, Sr., Cleveland, Ohio, to D. McLean, Spokane, Washington, and canceled in 1938. The 6 photos are not post cards. Generally fine condition except as noted above. There could be a sleeper or two here, and we're not referring to a railroad car.

Really nice condition I grade as near fine. BONUS: THIS COPY COMES WITH ITS ORIGINAL PUBLISHER PRINTED 11' x 14" MAILING ENVELOPE. It has a couple of short tears and a quarter sized stain.

Long, color folding map in rear, "The Northwest in 1900 Showing The North-Western System and Connecting Lines to the Pacific. Also Indian Reservations, and their population in 1899." There is also a color map of the U. S. in the front. There are also several other color 1 page maps. This copy poor reading copy because (1) front binding is broken with first signature loose, (2) leave containing pps 63/64 have portion of a photo of Cheyenne Girls torn out with resulting loss of text on verso; piece torn out is @ 2 1/2" x 3". From another copy I simultaneously owned I photocopied those two pages & the copies are folded & laid into the book. (3) back hinge is broken but rear binding is nevertheless stable. Rainey was postmaster of Enid for many years and was apparently a scholarly and serious historian of the Cherokee Strip and, in this book, what was once called "No Man's Land." Dalhart: Dalhart Pub Co, 1939. First Thus. Soft cover. Collectible Very Good. Original issue. 4to pictorial wraps showing XIT Headquarters, Division No. 1, Buffalo Springs. 99pp. Illus. Ads. Published in Dalhart, Texas. The XIT was once considered (around 1886) the largest ranch in the world, and it was fenced. The land was acquired by a Chicago syndicate in exchange for paying for the new Texas State Capitol building. The ranch, composed of 10 units, lay along the western border of the Texas Panhandle shared with New Mexico and the western end of the Oklahoma Panhandle. It's fame and history was written by J. Evetts Haley. Very good copy with a couple of short tears to the cover edges and mild soiling / aging. Wonderful short pieces biographical and otherwise, photos of old ranchers and cowboys, and great regional/local ads.
