Facsimiles of two works by Rabelais, originally printed in Lyon in 1552, bound in vellum, gilt illustration on front cover [7 in. (40) pp.], limited edition, copy #215 of 300; ink note tipped in to front pastedown regarding the publication; accompanied by Champion's essay on the works, bound in paperwraps [7 in. (1), 18 pp.]. Some light soiling, else very good.

As recorded in a series of two manuscript documents and three partly printed documents, completed in manuscript, November 1850--4 April 1851. Comprising a bill of indictment against the accused John Carver, an arrest warrant signed by the Switzerland County clerk of court, two summonses for witnesses, and a bond signed by Carver and the county sheriff, guaranteeing Carver's appearance in court. 4to. and half-sheet 4to. Each 1-page, 4 with docketing on verso. A very good lot.

First edition of the first biennial issue of this directory (published into the late 1880s). 8vo. 225 pp. [Title page on p. 21, preceded by ads.] Numerous ads, including two chromolithographs (both for printers). Original boards printed with advertisements, rebacked in leather, not affecting the printed ads. Very good copy with old library markings, marked withdrawn.

London: Longmans, Green, and Co, 1870. First edition. 8vo, xiv, 391 pp. Frontispiece map; publisher's 30-page catalogue at rear (dated January, 1871). The route of the Pacific Railway across the western United States, with several chapters on the subject of Mormonism and the Mormons of Utah. Sabin 67430. Soliday IV, 476: "The Pacific Railroad, Great Salt Lake, California, the 'Tigers' in San Francisco, etc." Decker 35, 472. Flake 6810: "[Rae] stayed in Sat Lake City for a few weeks in 1869 and used this as the basis of a series of letters on Mormonism." Very good. Nicely rebound (in 1929) in red cloth, gilt title and ornamental rules on spine. (#5770).

Sabin 67484 (incorrectly calling for two maps; while other translations, including the English one, had maps, no citation in OCLC, RLIN, BLC, Bibliotheque Nationale, or the NUC notes any in this one).

Natural history of Lake Menasha, Stave Lake, and Mink Lake, lying just across the Mississippi River from Memphis; includes some waterfowl hunting and fishing, including a tale told in dialect by a local African-American guide. Biscotti, p. 355: "Description of St. Francis Valley Club on Lake Menasha, near Memphis, with some hunting." Not in Heller. OCLC locates three copies (Memphis Public, Tennessee State Library, Virginia). Original silver-stamped decorated textured green wrappers, stapled. Very good copy of a rare pamphlet.

[Philadelphia, PA]: Brown and Merritt, Printers, 1818. One page document on vellum, 38 x 60 cm., partly printed, completed in manuscript. Signed by Condy Raguet, and witnessed by James Dundas and G. Bartran [sp?]. Folded, red wax seals, docketed on verso. Pratt rents to Condy Raguet this lot on Walnut Street for the sum of 312 Spanish milled silver dollars, payable yearly. Raguet likewise agrees to build a brick building on the property valued at at least $7000, within a year of this agreement. Raguet also has the option to purchase the property outright at any time for the "full sum of five thousand two hundred dollars." Very good. Oblong 4to. 39, (5) pp. Illustrated, captioned photographic plates of scenes along the route, marginal line drawings by Trezevant. The text describes the route across West Texas, with some promotional information. Original printed brown wrappers, stapled. Very good.

Tempell, Robert Denny, and J.S. Parris, 3 December 1856. Folio. 1 page; docketed on verso. Folded as for filing, but very good. Addressed in print to Judge P.B. Hooper of the Maryland Seventh Judicial Circuit, the supervising magistrate in this use of eminent domain; the commissioners' petition includes a description of the condemned lands in Talbot County and their assessed value for purchase from the owner.

Unused ticket for rail travel, 2 x 3 ½ inches, printed on mulberry card stock, with blanks for manuscript entries of place of origination and destination and number of seats.
