Writing on ffep includes a former owner's name and bookstore price; copyright page stamped "withdrawn" from H.M. Stationery Office; pale yellow highlighting observed on three pages, but rest of the text is clean and unmarked.

Tawney on the causes of the English Civil War. Journal format (approx. 7" x 10"), light-weight card-stock wraps with corner creases, light soil, age-tanning and light foxing, spine a bit rumpled. Translated by Jacques LeClercq, who interpolated some explanations from Champion's Critical French edition; illustrated by Lynd Ward. 8vo, 2" thick, beige cloth with blue lettering on spine, end papers decorated with drawings - blemished patch on ffep, boards lightly soiled and shelf worn, backstrip rumpled at crown. Bookplate affixed to second front free end paper states the volume was awarded to (later Prof.) Warner Berthoff at the Hotchkiss School, 1943; that page is rumpled. Underscoring and/or marginalia in pencil observed on approximately 10 pages.

Laid-in clipping from the NYRB Dec. 1985, a review by John Bayley of two other collections of Rilke's letters, conveys with the book.

Reynolds was a British art historian and museum curator, expert on Constable's work.This book was published in conjunction with an MMA exhibition of the same title. The catalogue section is illustrated with color reproductions of the paintings. Almost square (9-1/4" x 10-3/16"), medium blue cloth with black lettering on spine, minimal shelf wear, faint foxing to rear end papers from laid-in newspaper clipping, erased pencil price on ffep, interior pages on satin-finish stock bright and unmarked. DJ has a one-inch area of wear along bottom of front panel and one mark by pen on rear flap. The laid-in clipping is from the TLS, a review of a 2002 exhibition book on Constable.
