Description:
A popular novel by an English Victorian adventure writer and fabulist H. Rider Haggard. It tells about a search of an unexplored region of Africa by a group of adventurers led by Allan Quatermain for the missing brother of one of the party. It is the first English adventure novel set in Africa, and is considered to be the genesis of the lost world literary genre.
In Russia, Haggard's works began to be translated and published from the beginning of the XX century. In view of his popularity, the publisher P. P. Soykin in 1915 undertook the publication of the collected works in 20 volumes, which was sold out very quickly. In the 1920s, Haggard's novels were published in the USSR, and then came a long oblivion, Haggard was not published until the 1970s.
Haggard's translation of "The Mines of King Solomon", published in St. Petersburg in 1891, is the first book by Haggard to be translated into Russian.
As of July 2021, KVK and WorldCat show no one copy outside Russia.
