The text was originally written by Roberts as his last article for the Saturday Evening Post (Bales, 1993, p. 87) and reprinted by Colby College Press. This novel was revolutionary for its time because Roberts presents a favorable treatment of the Tory position during the American Revolution -- an approach that resulted in critical reviews and angry letters (see Bales, 1993, p. 77). While the novel covers the whole war, it highlights the often overlooked movement of the theater to the southern states following the British defeat at Saratoga.
