Description:
SCARCE-Tight, clean and unmarked-Rich green leatherette with guild on cover and spine-61ST printing-Copyright 1909-" Two Years Before the Mast is a book by the American author Richard Henry Dana, Jr. written after a two-year sea voyage starting in 1834. While at Harvard College, Dana had an attack of the measles, which affected his vision. Thinking it might help his sight, Dana, rather than going on a Grand Tour as most of his fellow classmates traditionally did (and unable to afford it anyway) and being something of a non-conformist, left Harvard to enlist as a common sailor on a voyage around Cape Horn on the brig Pilgrim. He returned to Massachusetts two years later aboard the Alert (which left California sooner than the Pilgrim). He kept a diary throughout the voyage, and after returning he wrote a recognized American classic, Two Years Before the Mast, published in 1840, the same year of his admission to the bar." Small chip missing on upper spine.

R. Martin. Lavish illustrations by acclaimed artist Luis Royo enrich this captivating and heartwarming story of a young girl and her dragon. In the world of A Song of Ice and Fire the ice dragon was a creature of legend and fear, for no man had ever tamed one. When it flew overhead, it left in its wake desolate cold and frozen land. But Adara was not afraid. For Adara was a winter child, born during the worst freeze that anyone, even the Old Ones, could remember. Saxtons River Publications, 1990. Soft cover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. A tight and unmarked copy-The Entrepreneur's Road Map to Business Success is a book that inspires and leads the reader through the many steps of starting and operating a business. With elegant simplicity and clarity, it covers how to decide which business to start, how to plan, market, finance, manage, sell, and avoid detours. In a world where the entrepreneur often feels like a lone traveler on an uncertain road, this book is the road map that he or she will consult over and over again to stay on course. It looks and reads in a refreshingly different way from most business books: from the vividly colorful cover that suggests adventure and invites exploration...to the text that reads more like a novel than a business book...to the chapter summaries that focus attention on key points...to the helpful checklists and resource lists.

Facsimile reprint of the original- stapled booklet is tight with underlining-21 pps + ads on occult books, etc.-" This 1928 text by Ra Mayne (Robert A. Nelson) is a great addition to your crystal gazing library, along with the works of C. Alexander, Theodore Besterman, Sepharial, et al. The practical step-by-step instructions will get you results and, while some bits need to be taken with a grain of salt, there's none of the nonsense that you see in contemporary writings on the subject. (The late 1800's up until 1950 or so was the golden age for this kind of writing.) The vintage ad pages are fun and interesting, I'm glad to see them included."-Stella

Seven hundred and thirty women, wrapped in wet, grey, threadbare blankets, standing in the rain. Our blankets hang over our heads, drape down to the soil. We hold them closed with our hands from the inside, leaving only a small opening to peer out, so that we save the precious warmth of our breath. (from Chapter 5) So begins the author's sojourn, her search for freedom that begins with the chaotic barrenness in which she found herself after her liberation on Easter Sunday, April 1945, and takes her across several continents and half a lifetime. Raab paints a brief yet moving picture of her idyllic life before her internment and the shock and the horrors of Auschwitz, but it is in the images of life after her liberation, that Raab imparts her most poignant story a story told in a clear, almost sparse, always honest style, a story of the brutal, and,… Read More

Description:
" The 'Treasury of Dharma' illustrates that the teachings of Buddha are indeed a rare and most precious treasure which, if one is able to see its value and is skillful in using it, not only fulfills one's temporary needs but accomplishes the result of lasting happiness. If ignorance, egoism, greed, hatred, pride, jealousy and so on forcefully dominate one's mental continuum, endless problems and sufferings for oneself and others will result instead of peace and happiness. On the contrary, if satisfaction, contentment, altruism, patience, love, compassion, wisdom, and so forth are strong and stable in one's mind, even negative conditions are transformed into supportive factors. Since the faults in the mind, no matter how great they may seem, are not in the nature of the mind itself, they can be totally eradicated, and no matter how weak the positive qualities may seem, they can be developed infinitely. The accurate methods to achieve both are the essence of the teaching of the Enlightened One, and the… Read More

The artists gather for a picture at a party in an ancient villa. Bear Bavinsky, the creator of vast canvases, larger than life, is at the center of the picture. His wife, Natalie, edges out of the shot. From the side of the room watches little Pinch--their son. At five years old he loves Bear almost as much as he fears him. After Bear abandons their family, Pinch will still worship him, striving to live up to the Bavinsky name; while Natalie, a ceramicist, cannot hope to be more than a forgotten muse. Trying to burn brightly in his father's shadow, Pinch's attempts flicker and die. Yet by the end of a career of twists and compromises, Pinch will enact an unexpected rebellion that will leave forever his mark upon the Bear Bavinsky legacy.
