An introduction about Redoute and a brief history of the rose in cultivation followed by descriptions of individual roses and the attractive coloured plates. Nice and clean inside, the plates are in very good condition.

Xxviii + 828pp illustrated with a portrait of the poet and engraving of his residence at Keswick. A little foxing to the front and rear, but generally very clean inside. The complete poetical works, previously published in 10 volumes of the Lakeland romantic poet Robert Southey. Contemporary and friend to both Coleridge and Wordsworth. Popular in the 19th century, his work has been subsequently been overshadowed by both of them. His subjects were wide ranging including historical figures such as Joan of Arc and Wat Tytler, the Slave Trade (he was anti-slavery), ballads on a variety of subjects, lyrical poems on the nature of life, loss, beauty and so forth. This covers a period when he was trying to encourage emigration to the colonies with some success. There is a tear to the title page & some underlining also, very small tear to the base of the last few pages (see pictures). Other than this, the book is in incredible condition for it's age. A scarce original volume.
