Description:
V.p.: N.p., [1925-1931. This collection of Ham Radio licenses was gathered by Seattle radio and television pioneer Paul Morris (call letters: W7GT). Prior to the advent of television Paul Morris was on the staff of Seattle's KRSC news radio program. He was later part of the engineering crew of KRSC TV, the 16th TV station in the U.S. KRSC was soon purchased by Dorothy Stimson Bullit who promptly changed the call letters to KING, as it remains today. Paul Morris was a communication enthusiast as were many thousands of others across the nation in those heady early days. Morris must have sent out a call for licenses as he gathered up a resounding number of them. While the majority are from operators in Washington State, there are also many from other parts of the country. We could find no obituary of Paul Morris but he certainly was a man of his times. The lot also includes 5 copies of Paul Morris and a number of foreign liscenses although of a later date.

Publisher's burgundy faux-morocco, front covers with a gilt Indian design, gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jackets. Discreet and small presentation stamp to front blank. A couple of minor chips to jacket extremities but a wonderful set. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa (18 February 1836 – 16 August 1886) was an Indian mystic and yogi during the 19th-century. Ramakrishna was given to spiritual ecstasies from a young age, and was influenced by several religious traditions, including devotion toward the goddess Kali, Tantra and Vaishnava bhakti, and Advaita Vedanta. The perception amongst Bengali elites of what they considered his exemplary life, led to the formation of the Ramakrishna Mission by his chief disciple Swami Vivekananda, which acquired worldwide influence in the spread of modern Hinduism. Despite initial reservations, Vivekananda became… Read More

New York: The Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease Publishing Company, 1914. First edition in English, Octavo. iii, [1, blank], 100 pp. Publisher brown printed wrappers. Some erosion to spine (loss of "The" of title), front corners with light chips. Front cover with small oval stamp and remains of paper label (no other markings). A very good copy of an important work by Rank. Mythology has come into its own as a field of serious study since the days of Frazier's Golden Bough. When one reads the title of this book one usually thinks of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell but one of the first to study this myth and its meanings was personality psychologist Otto Rank. "One of his earliest works was The Myth of the Birth of the Hero, in which he examines such birth myths as those of the Babylonian kings Gilgamesh and Sargon, the Hindu hero Karna, The Persian king Cyrus, The Greek heroes Oedipus, Hercules, Paris, and Perseus, the Roman founders Romulus and Remus, the Celtic hero Tristan, the Germanic heroes… Read More

Light spotting and foxing but overall a very good copy Ranke was one of the great figures of nineteenth-century European scholarship and a founder of modern historical science. This book, published as an appendage to his Geschicheten der romanischen, contains his greatest innovation. Ranke established that the materials from which the historian should construct his history ought to be, wherever possible, documentary sources. The proposition that serious history ought to be based on archival research and the large-scale publication of documentary source materials have their origins in Ranke's adoption of a new critical method. “Ranke first applied to medieval and modern history the critical principles… Read More
