Quarto, original gilt stamped white buckram, top edges gilt, deckled fore and bottom edges. 13 color illustrations mounted on heavy brown stock, all with labeled tissue guards, 85 black and white illustrations. The buckram covers have light soiling, some edge foxing, a toned spine, and a bit of fraying on the spine tail. The first two and last two endpapers have foxing and there are a few spots on the first tissue guard. A small bookseller's label is pasted to the bottom of the front endpaper and there are remains of two pieces of tape on the front endpaper next to the gutter. The text and illustrations are in excellent condition. This is an oversized book; priority and international mailings will require additional postage.

The volume is lightly edge rubbed, has some perimeter toning on the rear panel, and there is a small abrasion to the front panel illustration. There is light to mild toning to the leaves, off-setting to the pastedowns-endpapers from the jacket, and the rear hinge is cracked. The dust jacket, protected in a sleeve, is toned, heavily so on the spine, and there are chips (generally 1/8" or less, although the base of the front fold has a nearly 1" narrow chip) and edge wrinkling.

At some point the hinges split and were carelessly glued back together, so much so that the front endpaper sticks above the text block and the top edge is crimped, wrinkled, and has two short closed tears. Some redeeming qualities: the text with the 14 illustrations are present and have only minor disturbances.
