Chalmers" [1872-1942] above a 4.5 cm lamb's profile in gold at the bottom right corner. The insert is folded down the middle and, showing two indistinct stab marks along the crease, was probably the inside of a Christmas card, retained for the otherwise unpublished poem and author's signature. 14.5 x 22cm. Publisher's orange and blue checquer-board hand-printed & hand-made paper covered boards. White printed paper label on upper cover with black lettering within scrolling border. Description:
Wiley-Blackwell, 1989 viii, 199 pages. Text block very slightly sunned. Top of dust-wrapper has some extremely mild creases. "Relevant Logic" describes the philosophical basis and the formal theory of logical argument. The notion of relevance required for this theory is obtained by analysis of the grounds for asserting a formula in a proof. Stephen Read's proof-theory embraces classical, relevant and modal logics and is consistent with the appropriate semantics. "Relevant Logic" also contains a philosophical analysis of the notion of meaning as it relates to logical theory.. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good.

n.p., 1840 224 printed pages. Slight damage and small hole in title page. Lacks front free endpaper. Leaves evenly age-toned. 35 x 53 mm. Contemporary black roan. All edges gilt. This is a miniature edition of the original moral tale that was later followed by sequels, The Dairyman's Cottage and The Conversion of the Dairyman's Daughter. It had a remarkably wide distribution and influence. It was a narrative of the true experience of Elizabeth Wallbridge, who was the person after whom the book was named. Elizabeth Wallbridge was born, lived and died in the Parish of Arreton, Isle of Wight, England. Her parents although worthy were of the lowly ranks of the poor, and their children were put to service at an early age. The author of the narrative was Rev. Legh Richmond, a religious writer of the period, who was the curate of the neighbouring parish of Brading. According to the account in the book, Miss Wallbridge's life until the age of 26 was of the most worldly character. Never immoral,… Read More

East African Standard Limited, 1918 Broadsheet on thin paper (folded creases and patches of foxing; some edges slightly worn). 21 x 34 cm. The African Standard, the oldest newspaper in British East Africa or Uganda, was established as a weekly by Alibhai Mulla Jeevanjee, a very rich Parsee contractor, general merchant, & immigrant businessman in 1902. In 1905 Jevanjee, sold the paper for £50 to Maia Anderson (1874-1936) & Rudolf Franz Mayer (1874-1934), who changed the paper's name to the East African Standard. On Aug. 19, 1905 it became a daily paper and in 1910 moved its headquarters from Mombasa to Nairobi. The East African Standard declared strongly colonialist viewpoints & spent the first few months of the First World War proclaiming the need to keep peace in the colonies & not encourage Africans to seize the opportunity to revolt. Mayer, arriving in East Africa in 1900 from Germany with nothing but an old hand printing press and five pounds, had become by 1914… Read More
