Description:
London: Faber & Faber. London, Faber & Faber, 1935. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A very good copy. Inscribed by the author. Eddison has presented the copy to Library of Trinity College, Oxford. Eddison studied at Trinity. The inscription reads 'Presented to the Library of Trinity College, Oxford, by the author, E. R. Eddison, February 1935' followed by a note in Greek (something about chestnuts and Aphrodite? - Aphrodite being the model for Eddison's goddess in the book). The first in the author's acclaimed trilogy, with volumes two and three following in 1941 and 1958. Eddison was an occasional Inkling, and his work was highly praised by Tolkien and Lewis. An important book. Condition: The jacket's a little loose with a couple of short tears and some light edge wear. The book has been stamped a couple of times by the library, including one to the title page and one to the front pastedown. Upper board has a library sticker. Boards a little rubbed. Description:
Gollancz. London, Gollancz, 2010-2014. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. Three [3] volumes. Fine condition. All three books signed. An excellent trilogy. Rajaniemi pours all his ideas into the first novel, but manages to continue the story without letting the quality slip. Volume one is signed by the author thus: "Hannu Rajaniemi / 30th September 2010 / All because of the thief / (p14)". Volume two is signed thus: "5\9\2012 / Hannu Rajaniemi", and is numbered 77/100. Volume three is signed thus: "Hannu Rajaniemi \ 6/7/2014", and is numbered 77/100. As far as we know there was no limited edition of the first volume, at least not of the first issue. The first issue was lacking the dedication left, and was reportedly pulped though I can find no reference to the pulping (it seems more likely that there was a second impression with the correction). In Broderick and Di Filippo's SF the 101 Best Novels 1985-2010 [286]. [6464, Hyraxia Books]. 2010-2014 . Fine.… Read more

Description:
London: Robert Scott. London, Robert Scott, n.d. [1921 BL]. First Edition. First Impression. Lost Race. A nice copy in the rare dust jacket. Pleasently illustrated with chapter vignettes and some full page illustrations (unattributed). Not really a lost race novel, given the prehistoric setting (pretty much everything would be lost race), but sits will within the Lost Race collective. Bleiler has Blue Wolf as a pseudonym of Robert Scott, various other sources name Joyce Reason. Reason seems more likely given the subject matter, and Robert Scott is noted as the publisher of the book (and others), so probably just a mistake. In Bleiler under Pre-historic Life [p26], Locke's state A [Vol I, 937]. Provenance: George Locke. Condition is near fine, jacket largely complete and in good shape with a couple of chips, the larger being to the spine. A little offsetting to the endpapers. [5953, Hyraxia Books]. n.d. [1921 BL] . Near Fine. Hardback. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1921.

Description:
London: Eveleigh Nash. London, Eveleigh Nash, 1910. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A very good book in a poor jacket. Inscribed by the author. Locke's copy as mentioned in Spectrum volume one, page 101. Inscribed 'To Hall from his affec. Uncle H. Rider Haggard. Ditchingham 12 Sept 1910'. On the front endpaper is a manuscript poem. My default position would be to suggest that the poem is not in Haggard's hand, given evidence to prove it was. George was vastly more familiar with Haggard than I am, and, to quote 'I feel about 70% sure that this poem was penned by Haggard himself. If not Haggard, it was, in view of the presentation, almost certainly the work of a member of his family.' - whatever the story, it's a nice addition to the book. That said, when George offered it in 2005 under Sotheby's (where it didn't sell), the catalogue description suggested the poem was not in Haggard's hand. Anyway, enough of the possible mss poem on the fly leaf; this… Read more

Description:
London: Rich & Cowan. London, Rich & Cowan, n.d. [1940]. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A very good copy. Inscribed by the author to the front endpaper. An uncommon work of crime fiction. The second George Stavely novel. The inscription reads 'Old Montaigne said: "To Judge a man, we must a long time follw, and by curiosity I marke his steps". In my own little way, [???]. I have tried to carry this out in "Death Forms Three". Clifton Robbins, February, 1940'. The jacket is largely complete, with a chip to the head of the spine and some wear to the lower spine tip. Short tear to head of spine and some wear to corners. One small stain to the jacket rear, but largely very neat. Cloth rubbed at spine with some loss of lettering, bumped spine tips and a little discoulouring. Some offsetting to endpapers. A nice copy of a rare book. Cover art by Marc Stone [8174, Hyraxia Books]. n.d. [1940] . Very Good. Hardback. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1940.
