Description:
Washington: Gales and Seaton, 1835. Hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. Thick Paper Issue. 5 x 8.75in. 94pp. Publisher's quarter gilt stamped red morocco over diamond patterned cloth boards. The binding is nearly uniform with those produced for presentation by John Quincy Adams, however this variant, with the diamond patterned cloth boards, seems to have been produced specifically for presentation by officials of Congress. The front paste-down and first blank, in ink and pencil respectively, state this copy to have been presented by the U.S. Representative of New York, Abijah Mann Jr., to his successor, Arphaxed Loomis. VERY GOOD. Shows the corners rubbed with slight loss, the spine with some marginal surface cracking, a chip from the spine at the topmost, title page with the slightest possible hint of foxing, otherwise the binding is strong, the text is clean and unmarked, and the boards remain bright and distinct. As pictured.
