Bound in superb 20th century antique-style calf with blindstamped patterning and two-color brown leather, morocco label on spine with gilt lettering. With superb frontispiece engraved additional title by William Marshall, who famously contributed illustrations for Quarles' best known work, the Emblems, originally published in 1634, with grotesque illustrations. Occasional light worming to inner margin, occasional light marking, a very nice presentable copy of an important early work.

London: Printed by Joseph Lansdown & Mills, 1808. Original boards, with original printed paper label on spine. WIth 49 superb copperplates of emblems. Top right corner of boards missing, corners rubbed and bumped, binding secure. Internally, remarkably clean and bright.

London: Methuen, 1893. First edition. First edition. Light green cloth with attractive leaf and vine motif stamped in dark green. Parodies on artists and poets of the day including Algernon Swinburne (A.C.S.), Tennyson (Lort T__n), and perhaps the PRB painter William Waterhouse (W.W). Very good.
