5th printing code f-11-46,blue with lighter blue lettering,very minor shelfwear to book,slight browning to page ends and inside covers,previous owner name in light pencil 1st leaf. DJ; has big tears,the one on the spine all the way down,1/2 inch chips and rubbing,the dj is now in mylar to keep the dj together and protect it.

Dark Brownish Maroon cloth with gold lettering(all intact), spines ends bruised, corners sharp, unread tightness, very square, and very clean(no marks). Very uniform colors except for front cover about 2 x 2 bottom near spine. All page edges milled. The top spine is lightly pulled, noticeable slightly because the paper is semi-squared.I will probably find a dustjacket to increase the value and will add a spare signature to increase the value even more but for now, the price is as-is for now.

CODE C-8-46 = 3RD PRINTING, AUGUST, 1946. Book is tight,clean, and square. but spine is faded,surface tears spine, and wear.

Blue cloth with Gold Lettering, 2 volumes, stated First Edition. This set is autographed on the 1st leaf of both Volumes by Robert P. Patterson is a war hero of WW1, later served on the Bench as a Judge nominated by FDR only to be tapped by FDR to be his Sec of War, but instead ask for a lower position so he could spend more time at being instrumental in the mobilization of the armed forces preparatory to and during World War 2, it was during this time this set of Pershing's Experiences in WW1 helped in WW2 by Patterson. In one of the photos, you can see a dark smudge on the page ends about halfway to the bottom and runs from front to back where Robert thumbing thru them so often. I rescued these books 25 years ago and offered them to someplace preserving his service for the cost of postage, they refused so I stored them. Indianapolis: Bobbs Merrill, 1928. This is the First Edition stated on the copyright page, this title is getting very hard to find and the price keeps going up, there is no DJ but check the bonus at the last of this listing. Book has minor shelf wear to the edges, light rubbing, hinges holding nicely make the book very square, very very clean, with the top edge stained a faded red, and uneven cut pages. The label on the front cover is bearly rubbed, but the label on the spine does have a wee bit more light scratches and rubbing, but very very bright and readable, no marks I can see. BONUS: I believe this is the first issue from Grossett & Dunlap because of the dark red-stained top page edge, has its dustjacket with minor chipping and rubbing and light soiling(now in mylar), the book itself is NF and very collectible, this book is about 1/2 taller than the true 1st edition, but if you trimmed the DJ you would have a nice substitute DJ for the 1st edition.
