Bumpus Binding
(iv) + xxv + 170 + (iv)
Book measures 120mm x 95mm approximately.
Beautifully bound by Bumpus in full russet calf. Spine with five raised bands and gilt-boxed compartments with title, author and date in gilt. Single gilt fillet border and inner gilt work to both boards. Small portrait frontispiece to title page verso. Printed on superior quality paper. All page edges in gilt.
CONDITION
The binding is firm. Boards exhibit some minor wear and a few surface scratches, with rubbing to hinges and corners, and slight loss to top left corner of front board. Also, front board is a little blotchy. Typical dentelle shadows to paste-downs.
Internally the pages are very fresh and clean throughout. Small neat previous owner ink inscription to front end-paper.

Three volumes, very nicely bound in full contemporary light olive calf. Spine with five gilt-ruled raised bands with elaborate gilt decoration to gilt-boxed compartments, with tan and black title / volume labels. Double gilt fillet and blind-tooled borders with cornices to both boards. Nicely marbled end-papers and paste-downs. All page edges marbled.
CONDITION

Bound and re-backed in later quarter plain brown calf over marbled boards. Engraved portrait frontispiece. Previous owner bookplate to front paste-down.
CONDITION
Very good condition overall with binding holding very firm with just a few very light surface scratches and light bumping to upper board corners. Internally the pages are uniformly browned and aged with regular random marks and spots, some to page edges with end-papers more heavily so.

CONDITION
Binding is in fair condition with boards attached although both a little loose and cracked along all of front hinge and top of rear hinge. Calf maintains a rich appearance although there is some wear and scuffs, small losses and crackling to calf, also with some bumping to corners. Internally the pages are in good clean condition throughout although with some uniform dustiness and some margin shadowing and the odd blemish towards latter and foremost pages and to end-papers and paste-downs.
