Illustrated with many gorgeous color plates, tipped in. One black and white lithograph and one small color lithograph. Includes a large 4to pamphlet laid in called "Picasso: Women" by Milton S. Fox, editor in chief of Abrams (xvipp.). No ownership inscriptions. Two corners bumped. The jacket has several closed tears and the spine is slightly browned. . First Edition. Original Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.

NY: Dodd, Mead & Co., 1895. 2pp. article in this issue of The Bookman: A Literary Journal (Vol. I, No. 4 May 1895). The pagination on this issue runs xiipp. of prelims + pp217-pp290pp. + pp. xiii.-xiv. Illustrated in text, including a nice illustrated ad for "The Monarch: King of Bicycles." This article on Crane is on pages 29-30. Black and white portrait of Crane in text. This is only the second time that a serious article on Crane had been written in the press. The first was in Arena (June 1893) when Hamlin Garland wrote a mixed review of Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, Crane's first novel, which was essentially self published and had a very limited circulation. In this article by Peck (unsigned here, but identified in Stallman's "Stephen Crane: A Critical Bibliography" on page 75), the author praises Maggie and gives a little of the publishing history of it.
