Description:
[Np: The Artist, ca. 1962].. Original watercolor on paper (13.5 x 8"; 345 x 200 mm). Signed by the artist in the left lower corner, and captioned in pencil on verso. About fine. A close-up full-body rendering of a pangolin next to a waterhole, with a suggestion of its focusing on its own reflection in the water. This watercolor was painted at the approximate time of Parker's work on the illustrations for the limited edition of Marianne Moore's EIGHT POEMS, published by the Museum of Modern Art. It is a much more detailed and finished piece than the drawings executed for that work.

Description:
[Np: Maxist-Leninist Party, USA, ca. 197-].. Folio broadside (43 x 28 cm; 17 x 11"). Highly pictorial, printed in vibrant red and black. Very near fine. A striking representative example of the organizing and recruitment art for the Party, featuring a torso-up figure holding a stylized rifle, with jagged tree-trunks in the background, one of them supporting a red Soviet hammer & sickle flag. The Marxist- Leninist Party was the final incarnation of the largely-African American group organized in early 1967 as the Cleveland Draft Resistance Union. Through its lifetime it underwent several name changes, alliances and political stands, including the American Communist Workers' Movement (Marxist- Leninist), the Central Organization of US Marxist-Leninists, Marxist-Leninist Party USA and, finally, the U.S. Marxist-Leninist Organization. The Organization voted to dissolve itself in 1993.

A few paperclip rust marks and nicks, generally good to very good. Accompanied by a typed letter, signed, to "Dear Miss Marx" (i.e. Erica Marx, proprietor of the Hand & Flower Press), ca. 300 words. Accompanied by a semi-formal portrait photo of the author. Patten submits the typescript for Marx's consideration: "Here, at last, is my book. I was sorry to hear from your last letter that the position with regard to poetry is becoming difficult, and that you will have to cut your lists to three volumes per year. This, I fear, makes the chances of my collection appear rather remote, although I am able to appreciate that in such a position it is only the outstanding that will deserve publication."
