Full later (c. 1815) morocco, raised bands, spine in six panels, authors and title in gilt to second panel, panels with triple fillet frame, covers with triple fillet border, gilt roll to edges and inner edges, shell patterned marbled endpapers. Ex-library copy with ink stamp to title, but no other signs. Rubbed to extremities, front joint split but holding well, internally some light browning throughout, occasional chipping to fore-edges, H6 with an old repair to fore-edge, Xx3 and 4 torn to bottom margin. With engraved frontispiece and six plates, title in red and black, red ruled throughout. Binding is by Antoine Chaumont, with his ticket to reverse of front marbled endpaper (at the Foin St. Jacques 18 address), described by Ramsden as "one of the most important of the 1800-1820 binders" (See Ramsden, French Bookbinders pp52/53). Contemporary Dutch vellum gilt prize binding for the Enkhuizen Latin School, smooth spine divided into four panels by gilt double rules, flower head to centre of each panel, covers with double fillet border and large central coat of arms of Enkhuizen. Covers rubbed and a little soiled, small chip to head of front joint, lacks ties. Internally some light browning, small hole in N1 catching the page number, stain to bottom margin of T2 (not affecting text). Complete with frontispiece by G. Full contemporary morocco, bevelled boards, raised bands, spine in six panels with bands bordered by black rules, title in gilt to second panel, remaining with central quatrefoil device, vertical lines and triangles in black, covers with triple fillet border joined to a single fillet inner panel by small lozenges, which surrounds a large lozenge and smaller lozenge, with repeated quatrefoils between the two, quatrefoils to the four points of the lozenge with four fleur de lis, a.e.g. with peacock patterned marbled endpapers. Spine slightly faded, slightly rubbed to extremities. Internally fairly bright and clean, interleaved throughout, many pages with illustrations tipped in, some loose and some now absent.
