Description:
London: Faber & Faber, 1995. First Edition. New. First Printing of Pamuk's second novel. The book is Fine, with barely a trace of the usual darkening to the paper on the top edge. The jacket is also Fine, with the original price of UK 14.99 net unclipped. It bears some pretty simplistic, yet strikingly different artwork than that of the American edition, published by FSG a year earlier. There is an imperceptible trace of lightening to the red on the spine. This copy has been signed boldly in black by Pamuk, the first Turkish winner of the Nobel Prize. A mystery novel set in Istanbul involving an amateur sleuth, missing persons, and investigative journalists. Considerably less common than the American edition.

Description:
Eugene: Student Publications Board of the University of Oregon, 1957. Octavo, 64 pp. in illustrated wraps. Contains Ken Kesey's earliest commercially published appearance, a story titled 'The First Sunday In September.' A strong associtation copy, inscribed by Kesey at his contribution to the artist Tom Hardy. The inscription is in pen and apparently early, pre-dating his his later day-glo paint and glitter signatures. This copy is additionally inscribed to Hardy by editor Robert Paul at the title page. A good association between a group of men who played a significant role in the postwar cultural heritage of the Pacific Northwest. About Fine, with a tiny nick in the paper covering the head of the spine and a touch of rubbing to the heel.

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1924. First Edition. The Pulitzer Prize-winning author's first book, "a collection of linked short stories about a black farm laborer named Killdee; his wife, Rose; and their foster daughter, Missie. Peterkin drew on what she knew about the lives of real people at Lang Syne, rendering some of them so acutely that the portraits are recognizable to their descendants. Yet the emotional force of many of the tales comes from her own life experience, especially the trauma of losing her mother and growing up apart from her father" (Williams, Susan Millar. "Peterkin, Julia Mood." South Carolina Encyclopedia). A presentable copy of a significant debut. First Printing, one of 2,000 numbered copies (of which 1,950 were for sale), this being copy no.1,908. New York: Triangle Publications, Inc, 1953. After receiving 50 rejection slips from an assortment of publications before a single piece of her creative writing was accepted, Plath was informed during her final term in high school that Seventeen would publish her story "And Summer Will Not Come Again" in their August, 1950 issue. The magazine would be the first mainstream publication where Plath's poetry and short fiction would be exposed, printing her work on eight occasions between 1950-1953. Her contributions in the present group include "Ode to a Bitten Plum," "a short, Keats-inspired poem in which the narrator, contemplating a plum, decides its seed represents more abstract concepts like time and eternity" (November 1950, p.104); "Den of Lions," a story based on her failed love affair with a boyfriend while attending Smith College (May 1951, p.127, 144-145); "It's All Yours" (story, October 1952, p.76, 100-104); "The Suitcases Are Packed Again" (poem, March 1953, p.91); and "Carnival Nocturne"…

Detroit: Schuman's, 1937. First, Limited Edition. Association copy of Porter's tragic short novel, set on a small South Texas dairy farm between 1896-1905, which the author described as "the history of an innocent man pursued to his death by the will to do evil of another man, a will to work harm almost as blind and pointless as a catastrophe of the elements..." (from the prospectus). A portion of the work was first published by John H. Thompson, editor of the literary semi-annual Signatures, in the Spring, 1936 issue. Noon Wine, along with Old Mortality and Pale Horse, Pale Rider, were published together by Harcourt, Brace in 1939 (under the title Pale Horse, Pale Rider), and together comprise one of Porter's signature works. Filmed for television by Sam Peckinpah in 1966, starring Jason Robards, Olivia de Haviland, and Theodore Bikel.
