A lively, well written account of Rodgers' part in the formation and endeavors of the early American navy, with much on his tenure on the "President". The cloth shows only light wear at the extremities, with just the hint of a fray at the top of the front gutter. Hinges solid; binding square. A clean, tight, unmarked copy. A very nice example of the fine volumes produced by this Cleveland publisher.

The jacket is lacking 1" at the head of the spine and 1/2" at the heel. There is a creased tear to the upper front corner. Hinges solid; binding square. The jacket is now in mylar. Very difficult to locate in a Lantern Press edition.

With numerous facsimile plates, 14 of which are folding. One of these has a 3" tear; the others are fine. A most interesting catalogue of 18th and 19th century items. The wraps show mild toning with light soil; the spine has small chipping at the head and heel, not affecting any lettering. The text and illustrations are clean; the binding tight. The catalogue is unmarked.

Rasmus Anderson was the founder of the Department of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Wisconsin, the oldest such program in the United States. Text is entirely in English.
