Later marbled wrappers. = In this paper a new equatorial telescope is described and beautifully illustrated. Edward Nairne (1728-1806) was a British optician and scientific instrument maker. "Nairne patented several electrical machines, including an electrostatic generator ... in the early 1770s, Edward Nairne constructed the first successful marine barometer...Nairne's first marine barometer was sent on James Cook's second voyage to the South Pacific" (Wikipedia). Marbled endpapers. = A fundamental monograph on the cryptogams of Scandinavia in a good, nicely bound copy. Inscribed by the first author, the Swedish botanist John Axel Nannfeldt (1904-1985) on the first blank, viz., a dedication (and happy new year) to the French botanist and mycologist Roger Heim (1900-1979), dated Uppsala 23 XII 1948. The second author, Gustaf Einar Du Rietz (1895-1967), was a Swedish lichenologist and ecologist. Both authors were professors at Uppsale University. Front hinge tender, otherwise very good. A unique copy. Neither in Nissen BBI nor in Stafleu and Cowan.

The first part, with 34 text figures, is an annotated check list for identification purposes. The second part deals especially with the yellow meadow ant, Lasius flavus (Fabricius) and contains beautifull illustrations of the ant's morphology and anatomy. The author, Nikolaj Victorovitz Nasonov (1855-1939) was a Russion hymenopterologist who published mainly on bees. In Russian with Latin nomenclature. Spine partly split, a few pencilled marginalia, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Rare. Not in Horn Schenkling II.

The plates are numbered XVIII to XXXI. Stafleu and Cowan, list this under Martius and record only 13 plates. The second paper (which in the Acta precedes the Fraxinellae paper), with four pp., and one chromolithographed plate is by C. G. C. Reinwardt and Nees von Esenbeck. It deals with a new moss from the Moluccas and is not in Stafleu and Cowan. Offprints from the Nova Acta physico-medica Academiae Caesareae Leopoldino-Carolinae Naturae Curiosum XI. Complete, with the supplement. The first edition is rather common, this second, expanded edition much less so. Label on spine, some rubbing to the boards edges, old private owner's stamp on the front pastedowns, otherwise a very good, clean set. Very uncommon in this condition. Stafleu and Cowan, 6720.
