Originally published after her death in 1846, the book contains all the songs known to have been written by Lady Nairne, along with some others attributed to her. Deals with the author's ideas about the Tonal Answer in organ music, with some emphasis on the work of J S Bach. He was professor of Music at Auckland University, and the book is based on his PhD thesis from 1963. Some old damp-marking to blue boards but dark blue titles on spine are still clear. Slight yellowing to the pages, but otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book dealing with the 1888 crossing of Greenland by Fridtjof Nansen and five companions. Originally published in two volumes in 1890, later editions (including this one) were abridged, with some chapters and the appendix removed and others slightly shortened. 452pp, numerous small b&w illustrations..
