Large 8vo.; in full mottled calf, rebacked in same, with raised bands, rules in blind, and lettering in gilt; [1], 2-188 pages, including the Index; this copy with the signature "G. Pocock Bridgewater (1734) at the top of the first pages; there is foxing throughout.~~The signature is almost certainly that of Admiral Sir George Pocock (1706-1792), an officer of the Royal Navy. He entered the navy in 1718 (!) and became a commander in 1733. According to threedecks.org, Pocock became Commander of the Bridgewater in 1733/34. He must have had this book at hand at that time.~~An uncommon early edition with a nice association. Very Good binding.

There are no other marks. Bit of wear to the spine extremities but a sturdy and serviceable binding. Very Good binding.

One of 178 volumes penned by this prolific 19th century cleric, who edited journals, wrote books for the American Sunday-school Union and held several pastorates [Appleton's Cyclopaedia of American Biography, Vol. IV, p. 502 (1888). First printed in 1830, in an edition with a folding map, this later printing of The Monthly Concert is without map as issued. Boards have some stains, as well as some minor rippling to the cloth. Previous owner name and name-stamp on the front endpaper. A sturdy copy. (AI 39283; Appleton's Cyclopaedia of Biography). Good binding.

The spine, as is often the case, has faded to brown. There is a previous owner name on the endpaper. This copy is signed by Mrs. Stanard on the title page.~~A fine choice for Virginia history lovers to read on a chill winter's night. Krick says that "Mrs. Stanard tells the story of this 1676 incident well, though not thoroughly. Critics were quick to point out the unseemly romanticism of the work, and its unswerving devotion to Bacon and his supporters." We confess to liking our history was a generous dose of "unseemly romanticism", and nice to have Mrs. Stanard's first solo work signed by her.~ (Krick 475). Very Good binding.

Richmond: The Hermitage Press, Inc, 1907. First Edition. First appearing in the Southern Historical Society papers, this is the first appearance as a separate pamphlet. Stamped on the verso of the front cover: "Presented by Mrs. Virginius Newton, Confederate Reunion, Richmond, Va. May 30-June 3, 1907" (one surmises it was printed up for distribution at the reunion). A very good copy in the original wrappers.

Large 8vo.; in the publisher's blue embossed cloth binding, with the spine elaborately titled in gilt; complete with frontispiece and 40 full page numbered plates and numerous in-text illustrations; a signature or two a bit loose but all holding well.~~First published in 1812 as Mechanical Exercises; then in 1831 and The Mechanic's Companion and again in 1845 and 1850. An important book that was used successfully in the 19th century in the building and construction trade.~~This edition was a 27 page illustrated appendix on the steam engine, with engravings.~~A wonderful compendium of how it was done back in the day.~~. Very Good binding.

Niikura burst on the Japanese photography scene in 1965 with Dizzy Noon in which he presented a series of color photographs taken on the day the Japanese government opened the US Naval Air Facility Atsugi to the public. Niikura focussed on the cross cultural dynamics taking place in one afternoon. In Wonderful Street he brings the same kind of nonjudgmental focus. He eschews dramatic tricks for a deeper, more penetrating aesthetic. Near Fine binding / Near Fine dust jacket.

Wear to the boards; foxing and toning throughout. ~~A bound copy of 26 issues of Niles' Weekly Register, perhaps the most important weekly news magazine in this country during the first half of the 19th century. With "Sketches of the Barbary States in the early issues of this volume; an article on "The Sage of Monticello" (p. 317); an interesting account on why the flag of the United States should not be changed (p, 355); the captors of Major Andre; and much in the last couple of issues on the selection of a site for a Naval Depot around the Chesapeake Bay. This copy is signed with a personal inscription by the author Christine Noble Govan; the author has drawn a rather charming little cat to accompany the inscription.
