Description:
Osprey Pub Co, 2021. New book, 320 pages. From acclaimed aviation historian Michael Napier, this is a highly illustrated survey of the air war over Korea. The Korean War holds a unique place in aviation history. It saw the first large-scale jet-versus-jet combat and it was the first military action of the Cold War, fought by both the newly independent United States Air Force and the recently formed Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force. In a meticulously researched volume, former RAF Tornado pilot Michael Napier unravels the complex narrative of events, describing the course of operations in the air and the major campaigns of the land war. He examines in detail the air power of the major combatants, which included North and South Korea, the UK, Australia, Canada and South Africa as well as China, the USA and the USSR. Packed with stunning contemporary images and including first-hand combat reports, Korean Air War is a groundbreaking exploration of a much forgotten conflict, which nevertheless… Read More

London: Magpie Books, 2004. New book, unread. 549 pages. In this book, the author seeks to explode the prevailing myth that the Allied Generals in the Great War were responsible, through thier callous and incompetent military leadership, for the catastrophic loss of life on the Western Front. Description:
Squadron/Signal Publications, 2007. New book, 80 pages, SS5549. The Grumman OV-1 Mohawk was the first turboprop aircraft to enter into US Army service to fill the role of visual, photo and electronic reconnaissance. It was very unique in its design, and it never received the recognition for its accomplishments in over 40 years of service. Originally planned for both the Army and the Marines, the OV-1was used just by the Army, though NASA had a test aircraft for testing jet engine noise. Civilian users included the US Forest Service, the Environmental Protection Service and US Customs, which used the Mohawk to track drug traffic. The OV-1D aircraft from the 15th MI (military intelligence) and the 224th MI groups participated during Desert Storm, accruing over 5,500 flight hours with 2 planes lost. The Mohawk was retired from U.S. Army service in 1996. More than 150 photographs, line drawings, and 12 color profiles.. Soft Cover. As New. Illus. by Greer, Don. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

Description:
Squadron/Signal Publications, 2011. New book, 64 pages, SS1217. The development of unmanned aerial vehicles actually predates the development of piloted aircraft. Although manned aircraft more than overtook the unmanned variety in importance throughout the 20th Century, unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs are now poised to become a key component of air warfare. UAV evolved extensively and saw extensive action during Operation Desert Storm - the war against Iraq in 1991 - and since then the floodgates have been opened. The US Navy sees 2 main advantages in using UAVs - endurance and cost effectiveness. UAVs can stay aloft 2 or 3 days and ground operators can be rotated on a regular schedule; they also use less fuel thus reducing operating costs. Newer roles, such as bombing, are also being considered for UAVs, some of which will be equipped to carry a weapon pod or bomb rack, a valuable attribute over high-risk battlegrounds. Illustrated with 170 photographs, plus color profiles and detailed line… Read More

Description:
Squadron/Signal Publications, 2008. New book, 80 pages, SS5559. The success of the F-86 Sabre prompted Republic to design its own swept-wing aircraft and the prototype of the Thunderstreak - designated the YF-96A - took to the skies in 1950. The F-84F could reach a top speed of 695 mph, and in March of 1955, the Thunderstreak set a transcontinental speed record by flying from Los Angeles to New York in just 3 hours and 33 minutes. On the basis of the F-84F design, a photo-reconnaissance version, known as the RF-84F Thunderflash, was also developed and placed into production in 1952. Program delays plagued the development of the F-84F, and active duty phaseout began almost as soon as it entered service in 1954. By 1958 the F-84F was relegated to the Air National Guard. The Thunderstreak did serve as NATO?s front-line fighter-bomber during the 1950s, and France successfully sent F-84Fs into battle against Egypt during the 1956 Suez Canal Crisis. The F-84F remained in service with several European air… Read More

Osprey Pub Co, 2011. New book, 48 pages, NVG179. The patrol vehicles used by Special Operations Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq vary quite dramatically between the theaters as well as amongst the Coalition members, and have been developed and upgraded to meet the demands of the deployment. Covering all the major Coalition nations, Leigh Neville continues his look at the elite forces deployed in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom with this analysis of their vehicles. Tracing the evolution of the vehicle types, from their historical precedents, through their designs to their operational developments, he discusses their advantages and disadvantages, along with their tactical employment. From the mine-protected vehicles used to counter the IED threat in Iraq, the use of Strykers as armored raiding platforms by the US Rangers, to the civilian vehicles adapted for military service by both Coalition troops and Private Military Contractors in the regions, this book uses rare in-theater photographs… Read More
