Near fine in clean green cloth with bright gilt titles, a little rubbing to the spine ends and corners, internally the pages are crisp, one sticky mark to the front end paper. This book comes from the Franklin Delano Roosevelt collection of Frederick Baldwin Adams Jr, 1910 - 2001, the son of Ellen Walters Delano who was a first cousin to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Unpublished: Unpublished manuscript, 1930. Good. A 1000 page manuscript ledger which records the prescriptions issued by a pharmacist working in the Derbyshire town of Heanor. Each entry includes a name, address and date with chemical details of prescription. A superb research resource for local history and pharmaceutical history. Good 1930

Oxford: Royal Institute of International Affairs, 1963. 220 x 143 mm. Near Fine. pp 61 In near fine condition in coloured card wrappers, with rusty staples, internally very fresh. From the collection of Kenneth Robinson (1914-2005), a distinguished civil servant who became an expert on colonial government and administration. He was closely involved in international aspects of postwar planning, including former colonies, in south-West Africa (now Namibia), and became the Commonwealth Office expert on French West Africa. He became assistant secretary in the CO in 1946 (and head of the West African department), but resigned in 1948 to become reader in Commonwealth government at Oxford and subsequently director and professor of commonwealth affairs at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies in London. He was vice-chancellor of the University of Hong Kong from 1965 to 1972. Near Fine 1963

Very Good. pp284 The Church Monthly 1896 bound in one volume with "The Stanton and Birchover Magazine" issues 49 to 72, each a single printed news sheet produced by the local churches of Stanton and Birchover in Derbyshire. Very good in red cloth, the title 'Church Monthly 1896-97" in gilt to spine. Each well illustrated issue contains a variety of articles of local and national interest. A fascinating collection. Near Fine. pp 330 A very smart copy of the Burnley collection of hymn tunes, chants, kyries and glorias, with an introduction dated 1875 explaining that the book was published as a response to 'the rapid strides made by the people during the same period, in musical education and executive ability'. Textured cloth with decoration in black and gilt, black coated endpapers, title page in mixed Gothic and Roman type, music throughout. A very good copy. Near Fine 1875

Chorley near, Manchester: J Wood, 1930. No Binding. Near Fine. [23x27cm] Large illustrative printing block apparently showing an American Civil War scene, with a cavalry man bearing the Texas Lone Star State flag in combat with a sabre-bearing horseman who is seen rearing above him, sword drawn to strike a mortal blow. The image is made up of bronze strips, about 4mm high; 'J Wood Bolton' is stamped on the side of the wooden block and several production numbers. Stylistically the block appears to date from the first half of the twentieth century. Near Fine 1930

Bound volume containing around 30 printed particulars and conditions of sale for a variety of properties, land and homes in Essex from the first decade of the twentieth century. Locations include Chelmsford and Braintree, East Tilbury, East Donyland, Great Dunmow etc etc. Around a quarter of the items are tipped in, the rest loose, most running to four pages or more and with annotation about the result of the sale, often by auction. London: George Eyre and Andrew Strahan, 1807. Excellent. Very Good. pp 578 A bound folio of 78 Acts of Parliament from the second session of the 1807 Parliament, including an Act 'preventing any dealing or trafficking in the buying or selling of Slaves within the Colony of Sierra Leone' which followed the act to abolish the slave trade earlier the same year. The book is bound in speckled calf with gilt decoration and red and black spine labels as was customary for bound volumes of parliamentary acts. Some rubbing to extremities and along the hinges, and on boards but the binding is sounds and about very good. Among much else there are acts of Parliament concerning the Kilmainham Hospital, Stamp Duty in Ireland, an Act allowing the British Museum to sell items from their collections and an Act for the better Government of the settlements of Fort George and Bombay in India. Paris: F Regnault, 1525. One of the earliest prophetic collections to be published in France in an undated edition from the 1520s which draws upon Savonarola and other writers. Quarter marbled paper covered boards over calf spine from 1799; ticket of 'Librairie Normande... Caen' on the first pastedown. The printed text is preceded by 4 manuscript pages which explains how the repairs to this volume were based on a copy in the library at Chartres. The book's owner sets out the provenance for this particular volume which came from 'la Bibliotheque de M. Beaucousin avocat a Parlement à Paris savant litterateur...' At the same time as the binding was restored and additional endpapers inserted the volume had a couple of paper repairs made to the first leaf with manuscript facsimile to parts of A1 and A2, old damp staining to the final few leaves: the Mirabilis Liber collates complete A1-O4. Ownership inscription to front free end paper of Harold Wilson's father 'J H Wilson, Crumpsall'. Occasional pencil marks in the margins of the text: in volume I marking a speech by Sir Robert Peel on Corporation Reform; in volume II marking a passage defending the House of Lords. This book comes from the private collection of British Prime Minister Harold Wilson and his wife Mary who died recently at the age of 102. During his lifetime Harold Wilson kept the book in the Ashley Gardens mansion flat in Westminster that the couple shared until his death in 1995. Paris: Luska, 1955. 220 x 143 mm. Very Good. A lavishly produced programme advertising the "Kingdom of the Nude" cabaret which took place at Les Naturistes Club at 1 Place Pigalle, Paris. It appears to date from the 1950's when such risque song and dance shows were popular in the French capital. Starring Jean-Claude Rameau, France Millot, Christiane Jaquier and Jean Dany and le Ballet Des Naturistes the numbers include "Pour Seduire Les Hommes", "Dance Sauvages" and "Les Operas Comiques". The programme is very good in embossed black and gilt wrappers, covers slightly creased, black and white photographic illustration throughout. Very Good 1955

Gray (1934-2019) is acknowledged as one of the most innovative figures in Scottish literature and culture.
