Translated by Michael Gallagher, this is the second book in the tetralogy The Sea of Fertiltiy, which turned out to be Mishima's final great literary work. It is a stand alone novel but is connected historically (Japan in the twentieth century) and atmospherically to it's predecessor, Spring Snow.
Born into a Samurai family, Mishima took his life in ritual suicide, seppuku, on November 25, 1970.
