For those with long memories, this restaurant was located on Hampton Road. The menu bears pre-crash prices of course.

8 TYPED LETTERS, 7 BEING SIGNED BY PAGEANT DIRECTOR LOUIS ST. JOHN AND ONE SIGNED BY ATLANTIC CITY MAYOR EDWARD L. BADER TO ARTIST JOHN LA GATTA, the former on Atlantic City Pageant stationery and over 1,200 words and the latter Mayoral stationery being about 90 words. The letters are in very good condition, each bearing two folds. Overall they note invitations to adjudicate, Atlantic City Pageant procedures, events, dates, judges, dinners, accommodations, number of contestants, etc. The letters date from August 26, 1925 through July 22, 1927. The letter from Mayor Bader refers to an article appearing in The New York Evening Graphic which attacked the honor and veracity of the Pageant Directors and the Judges. Bader asks that he fill out an enclosed affidavit (not included here) to put matters right. On the verso of the October 1, 1925 letter, La Gatta has drawn a sketch of himself with golf bag in tow. THREE PAGE TYPED LETTER DATED 9/12/1982 with hand corrections and cross outs to actress Margaret Hamilton reminiscing about Ms. Hamilton's birthday, the delightful gift she received from her, the wonderful time she and her husband, John, had when taken backstage to meet the cast of ANOTHER LANGUAGE (Ms. Hamilton's first professional play), that she, Ms. Hamilton, was so good and thus was the only person from the original stage play that was cast in the film with Robert Montgomery and Helen Hayes, the enchanting dinner she hosted for her and her husband when she, Ms. Hamilton, lived in Columbia heights where they could see The Statue of Liberty from the balcony, meeting a man from The Boys Club who fascinated her, learning that the benefactor of The Boys Club was none other than Mrs. E. H. Harriman, the time Greta Garbo came to see her (Florence La Gatta's) home and more. All in all, a nice chatty letter consisting of good memories.

Illustrated with 21 chromolithographs and 351 wood engravings. Certainly a very good candidate for rebinding.

Godey, 1873, first edition, margins of covers with some wear and tear and chipping, else a near vg copy in wraps with near fine contents including all the marvelous fashion plates both in color and black & white. Individual issues of any periodical from this time period and earlier are most certainly not common.
