R.H. Russell, New York, 1900. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Fair Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Mars, Squire. ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON. A Child's Garden of Verses, New York: R.H. RUSSELL, 1900. Large, square quarto, first edition, pp. 115, printed boards, illustrated by E. Mars and M.H. Squire, interleaved with pages from the 1910 Scribner edition showing Jessie Willcox Smith illustrations for these verses, with the ownership signature of Sara Delano (this copy came from the estate of a Franklin D. Roosevelt collector, so the signature may be that of Roosevelt's mother -- I don't know). An important edition for collectors of illustration and children's books, but, like other Russell books, this one was doomed to unnatural physical failure. Condition of this book: Backstrip mostly perished, covers' edges worn and chipped, some leaves loose, occasional tears at edges; clean. Size: Quarto. Text body is clean, and free from… Read More
