INSCRIBED on verso of half-title, dated in the year of publication (from Germany). Poems about Japan, written at the end of the 1950s, by this Virginia native. Includes two typed poems (these do not appear in the book), entitled “The Angelus” and “Berlin,” dated 1959 and 1960, written in Germany and INSCRIBED to the same recipient of the book.

One thousand, five hundred and four books were signed during festivities that day which also included music, dancing, exhibits of local history, hay rack rides, and ice cream social, and a buffalo barbecue attended by some three thousand sold.”

Atlanta: Georgia Department of Public Health, 1930s. 14 page pamphlet. 8.5” x 5.5”. VG (ink inscription on front cover, horizontal fold, soiling). Sex-positive sex education pamphlet by Levine, an advocate for marriage counseling and birth control who later became director of the Margaret Sanger Research Bureau. With descriptions of sexual organs, sexual intercourse, and sexual conduct—sections on The Hymen, The Sex Act Proper, and After Play. This text was later reprinted by Planned Parenthood.  No copies in commerce and only 3 copies of the 1930s edition in OCLC (Harvard, Emory, UC Davis).

Shepherd, The Rebel Press, Oakman, AL. A special limited edition was made from an original kept in the Lovecraft collection of the John Hay Library of Brown University, which provided the press with an original copy. A first edition was limited to a printing of 450 copies (50 of the original 500 were lost by the USPS). This edition, the second, consists of five hundred copes, this being number 402.
