Description:
Edinburgh: The Friends of Edinburgh University Library, 1995. 8vo, pp. 17. Original illustrated stiff paper wrappers, lettered in red to front panel. A fine copy. First edition SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. LATER HANDWRITTEN NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR LAID IN: 'Graham, A few for your collection -- + perhaps you may amuse yourself for 5 minutes with this pamphlet. Barry. 19 ii 96'. A fine copy of this affectionate reminiscence. Laid in is a later note from Bloomfield, written on the reverse of a flyer for the Wye Book Fair, held in October 1993 and organised by Bloomfield's wife Valerie. The note, written in 1996, seems to have accompanied a batch of the pamphlets Bloomfield sent to a collector.

Description:
Burbank: NBC TV, 1959. 41pp. in blue paper wrappers, secured with staple to top left corner. A little edgewear and toning consistent with age, but a very well preserved copy. Original script for Episode 328 of the US version of This Is Your Life, featuring the band leader Ted Lewis. T. LESLIE JACKSON'S COPY, WITH HIS PENCILLED SIGNATURE TO FRONT WRAPPER. T. Leslie Jackson [1910-1992] was the BBC TV producer responsible for many of the Corporation's early Light Entertainment successes. In 1951 he directed the first series of What's My Line?, which ran for 149 episodes. The show was hosted by Eamonn Andrews, and together they imported the hit US show This Is Your Life. The UK version was first broadcast in 1955, and ran for the next fifty years: Jackson was Executive Producer on more than 250 episodes. A rare survivor, and a wonderful association.

Description:
New York: Julian Mesner, 1959. 8vo, pp. 320. Original black boards, lettered in green on front panel and spine. Text block a little browned, a couple of small marks to preliminaries, otherwise a near fine copy with just a little rubbing to spine ends, in a very good photo-illustrated dustwrapper, with two very small chips to lower edge of front panel, one to foot of spine, and a couple of closed tears to the lower edge at rear. 8 pp. of black and white photographs at rear. First edition. A slightly sensationalist dustwrapper design hides a serious study of the Beat movement -- one of the first -- written by one of the elders of the movement. Lawrence Lipton was a novelist, essayist and critic, associate of the Chicago writers active during the 1920s, Ben Hecht and Sherwood Anderson among them. (He was also the father of Inside The Actors Studio host, James Lipton).

The cessation slip tipped in at the issue's first page directs the reader to a statement by Eliot entitled Last Words on pp.269 - 275, in which he writes: 'Sixteen years is a long time for one man to remain editor of a review; for this review, I have sometimes wondered whether it has not been too long. [...] I am convinced that The Criterion is not the kind of review which can be taken up and continued by one editor after another. [...] If a similar… Read More

Oxford: Bruno Cassirer, N.d.. Small 8vo, pp. 96. Original illustrated card wrappers. Slight scuff to head of spine, otherwise a near fine copy. Later, softbound edition. JOSEPH LOSEY'S COPY, SIGNED, AND MARKED UP BY HIM WHILST ON A LOCATION RECCE. Given the vintage of this little travel guide, it seems likely that Losey used it while scouting locations for his 1970 film Figures In A Landscape (which was eventually shot in Spain). The book has many underlinings, presumably by Losey, and a number of pages have been folded over at the corners.
