Octavo (9.25" x 6.25"), [8], 111, & [1] pages, illustrated. Publisher's yellow/ tan cloth lettered in gilt on the spine, with pictorial device of a fishing net in gilt on the upper cover, in slipcase with an applied, printed title label on the front panel.
Small spot near the top of the spine, previous owner's bookplate at the verso of the first blank page causing staining from mounting glue evident on the recto, otherwise Very Good in like slipcase, lightly soiled, with a couple of dings at the edges.
This copy from the collection of Mary & Bert Tilt with their "Hunting - Fishing" bookplate. The author was a wealthy investment banker, avid angler and gifted writer.

Gilt dull on 4 volumes, moderate wear at spine extremities & corners, couple of hinges cracked, previous owner's bookplate in all volumes, foxing, certainly Good or better. From the library of Richard Cecil Garlick, Jr who was professor of French at the University of Virginia. Henry Carrington Lancaster, chair of the Romance Languages Department and professor of French at Johns Hopkins, was the world's foremost expert on French dramatic literature of the 16th through 18th centuries. He was also the first non French citizen to be awarded the Legion d'Honneur Three further volumes, extending the exhaustive treatise through 1700 (not offered here). were eventually published.

Trace edge wear, moderately toned, otherwise very good.
The story of John "Babbacombe" Lee relayed in the first person who survived execution by hanging on three different occasions in February of 1885. After the final attempt the attending medical officer declined to proceed. Released from prison in 1907, Lee emigrated to the United States where he died in 1945. The story inspired the 1971 album "Babbacombe Lee" by the English folk rock group Fairport Convention, making it the first "folk rock opera" in music history.

The club, which opened in 1936, certainly one of the first drag venues in the United States, was relegated to posterity in 1999.
