Cleanly ex-libris, with the small stamps and the tag of the Franklin Institute Library of Philadelphia discreetly applied at the plates and a number of the pages, and at the front pastedown. Still though, solid, presentable and VG in its dark-green cloth, with just a bit of rubbing to the panels. Thick octavo, 24 full-page plates and 10 folding maps complementing E.L. Corthell's text.

London and New York: Frederick Warne & Co. Hardcover. Collectible; Very Good. Lovely --and uncommon-- Victorian-era children's title, c. 1890. Beautifully illustrated thruout in rich chromolithography by the author. A solid, well-preserved and VG octavo in its wonderful pictorial boards, with a neat 1893 Christmas inscription --and school presentation below-- on the front free endpaper. A bit of of light foxing as well along several of the margins but the plates are uniformly bright and clean. A nice example of Victorian children's book design.

Oxford, England: The Clarendon Press/Oxford University Press, 1952. 1st. Cloth. Collectible; Very Good/Very Good. 1952 1st edition. VG+ in its elegant Oxford Navy-blue, with bright gilt-lettering along the spine. And in a crisp, price-intact, VG+ pictorial dustjacket. Very light, inoffensive foxing along the book's front and rear endsheets and to the jacket's panels. Still though, a perfectly presentable copy. Thick octavo, 629 pgs. Inconspicuous, tasteful former owner bookplate at front pastedown behind jacket flap.

1928. Letters. Near Fine. A warm, funny 3 pg. handwriten letter, dated July 10th, 1928, from H.L. Mencken to Lillian Gish. 3 separate sheets, each on Knopf stationary, each with its "American Mercury" letterhead. The letter is anecdotal and relaxed, and has held up very nicely. Each sheet is clean and crisp and shows an even, light fold at the center, and each sheet measures 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" and is a light, aqua-green. The only serious tone in the letter comes when Mencken implores Lillian Gish to vote for Al Smith. "It is a solemn and sacred duty. If we fail I'll head for a monastery"

A wonderful Association copy: FROM THE LIBRARY OF --AND SIGNED AND DATED BY-- LEGENDARY SKIDMORE, OWINGS AND MERRILL ARCHITECT GORDON BUNSHAFT. A solid, presentable copy to boot of this important wartime manifesto in city planning, written by the great Spanish architect J.L. Sert (1902-1983). Clean and Near Fine in a bright, price-intact, VG+ dustjacket, with very light wear along the panel edges and just a touch of light chipping at the spine ends. Oblong quarto, hundreds of black-and-white illustrations throughout. "Based on the proposals formulated by the C.I.A.M. (International Congress for Modern Architecture/Congres Internationaux d'Architecture Moderne").

Tight and VG (rubbing along the tips and the rear panel's fore-edge) in a crisp, VG- to VG dustjacket, with clear tape discreetly and neatly applied along the flap-folds, the spine ends and the rear panel's edges. Also inconspicuously applied along the lower-edges and the rear flap-fold of the inside of the dustjacket. Thick folio, deckled fore and bottom edges. Internally very clean, with no writing or markings to speak of. A very impressive study of Worcester porcelain, with 92 collotypes and 17 chromolithographs complementing R.L. Hobson's text.

Both volumes, companions to each other, are clean and Fine in crisp, Near Fine dustjackets, with light rubbing along the spine of "Colt Engraving". Tall quartos, hundreds and hundreds of high-quality plates (a number of them in color) throughout. Also includes a sturdy, sharp example of the navy-blue leatherette slipcase, which shows just a bit of light scuffing to the panels.

Thick quarto, 607 pgs. of text plus 100 figures at the rear. "The Anatomy and the Histology of the Retina in Man, Ape, Monkey, Including the Consideration of Visual Functions, the History of Physiological Optics, and the Histological Laboratory Technique"

A little boy takes a trip on a magic trolley that runs on spider webs to the land where Mother Goose characters come alive. Illustrated by Robert Porter King with unusual and stunning full-color illustrations on every page. The story is told in verse and features elves, brownies, Little Bo Peep, Jack and Jill and more. A lovely picture book.

A handsome, clean copy of this imposing 1915 catalogue of the British Museum's holdings of Bronze Reliefs from the Gates of Shalmaneser, King of Assyria from 860 to 825 B.C. VG in its navy-blue cloth, with bright gilt-lettering along the front panel and spine. Very light, limited fraying along spine ends and light soiling to the panels. Internally, very minor offsetting at the front and rear endpapers, otherwise clean as could be, with no markings or stamps of any kind. Tall quarto, 36 pgs. of text plus 80 sumptuous black-and-white plates.
