2 Huntingdon Road, Cambridge, 11 July 1898. 1 page 5 x 4½ inches, laid down. Alfred Anthunes Kanthack (1863-1898), a brilliant Cambridge doctor and bacteriologist, who died young of cancer. Professor of Pathology at Cambridge.

7 april 1862. 4 x 5 inches, in fine condition. From the autograph book compiled by Hugh Welch Diamond (1809-1886), "the father of psychiatric photography". Rare. Edward Kater (1816-1866), photographer. He joined the Calotype Club in the 1840s, becoming a vice president of the Photographic Society when it was formed. In 1852 Kater’s “Proof of the Value of Photography to the Archaeologist” appeared in Notes and Queries.

India Office, 23 October 1872. 3 pp. 7 x 4 inches, fine. Sir John William Kaye (1814-1876), military historian, author of The History of the War in Afghanistan (London, 1851), succeeded John Stuart Mill as secretary of the political and secret department of the India Office. “No man loved the old Field-Marshal more than I did, and he, and others, said that he loved me as a son.”

Dundee, 18 March 1867. A good one page example, 7 x 4½ inches. Charles Kean (1809-68), actor, son of Edmund Kean.

Postmarked Cheltenham, 30 July 1825. Overall 7 x 9 inches, remains of red wax seal, torn at seal opening, in good clean condition, light creases. Edmund Kean (1787 –1833), the celebrated Shakespearean actor.

13 Seymour Crescent, Euston Square, 27 April 1840. 1 page 8 x 5 inches, in good condition. Robert Keate (1777–1857), surgeon, younger brother of John Keate, headmaster of Eton. Robert Keate was a staff surgeon in the army. Keate held appointments to George III and George IV, and later became sergeant-surgeon-extraordinary to William IV, and in 1841 sergeant-surgeon to Queen Victoria.

Hursley, 26 October 1860. 4 pp. 6 x 3 inches, in very good condition, two light traces of former mounting. John Keble (1792-1866), English churchman, one of the early Tractarians. George William Kitchin (1827-1912), later Dean of Winchester and of Durham. “... found it most convenient to put off our Dedication Feast to that day; our Church also being dedicated to All Saints. I had called my nephew to come & preach, but as we do not hear from him I suppose he is hindered; & so we are driven thus to tax your kindness...” Keble asks Kitchin to bring two or three of his boys (Kitchin was the headmaster of a preparatory school at Twyford at this time).

Oxford, 16 April 1858; Brompton, 23 June 1859. 2 letters, 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. Robert Keeley (1793 – 1869), English actor-manager, comedian and female impersonator. In 1823 he originated the role of 'Fritz' in Presumption; or, the Fate of Frankenstein, the first known stage adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein.

7 February 1797. 2 pp. 9 x 7 inches, in good condition, with the address leaf, Penny Post mark. Elphinstone, In HMS Monarch, arrived in England on 3 January 1797 as conqueror of the Cape and the captor of the Dutch fleet. George Keith Elphinstone, Viscount Keith (1746-1823), admiral, fought in the American War of Independence, and commanded the expedition which took Cape Town (1795-97). In December 1798 he was sent to the Mediterranean as second in command to St.Vincent. Keith landed the army in Aboukir Bay (1801). From 1803 to 1807 he was commander-in-chief in the North Sea, with particular responsibility for coastal defence (including the Channel) in the event of a French invasion. From 1812 he was commander-in-chief of the Channel Fleet, and had a line of cruisers along the French coast at the time of Waterloo.

Finsbury Square, 10 January 1812. 3 pp. 9 x 7½ inches, folds, in good condition. Patrick Kelly (1756-1842), mathematician, astronomer and metrologist, best known for his comparative studies of weights and measures collected in his works Universal Cambist (1811) and Oriental Metrology; comprising the monies, weights, and measures of the East Indies, and other trading places in Asia, reduced to the English standard. ... To which is added an Appendix on Oriental measures of time (London, 1832). He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Imperial system of measurement through the Weights and Measures Act 1824. He was for many years master of a successful private school called the Mercantile School in Finsbury Square.

Royal Geographical Society, 3 July 1890. 1 page 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. Sir John Scott Keltie F.R.G.S. (1840 – 1927), Scottish geographer, best known for his work with the Royal Geographic Society. He joined the Royal Geographic Society in 1883, and quickly became heavily involved in its activities. He was appointed its Inspector of Geographical Education in 1884, and undertook a thorough review of the state of geography education in the UK, producing an influential 150-page report. In 1885 he became the Society's librarian, and upon the death of Henry Walter Bates in 1892, succeeded him as Assistant Secretary of the Society (in effect its Secretary, as the official Secretary was a figurehead from the nobility). Among his first tasks was the relaunching of the Proceedings of the Royal Geographic Society as the Geographical Journal in 1893, in order to appeal to a wider audience. He was officially given the title of Secretary in 1896.

Adelaide Kemble (1816-79), operatic singer, daughter of Charles Kemble, retired (1842) on her marriage to E.Sartorius, author of A Week in a French Country House (1867), Medusa and Other Tales (1868) and Past Hours (1880).

6 Tavistock Square, 7 July 1876. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. on writing paper with embossed arms titled Cenn Faelad. Edward Vaughan Hyde Kenealy QC (1819-1880), Irish barrister and writer, best remembered as counsel for the Tichborne claimant and the eccentric and disturbed conduct of the trial that led to his ruin. In 1866, Kenealy wrote The Book of God: the Apocalypse of Adam-Oannes, an unorthodox theological work in which he claimed that he was the "twelfth messenger of God", descended from Jesus Christ and Genghis Khan.
