(excerpted from the colophon) With TLS laid in on letterhead from Kanner to Don Bruckner, then editor of the New York Times Book Review, apparently enclosed with this copy in seeking review. Lacking the plastic slipcase, binding slightly soiled,one corner bruised, otherwise fine. The first publication from this small fine press which was awarded the Rounce & Coffin Award for excellence in book design in 1997. Per OCLC, an "Illustrated companion to Moby Dick containing 12 engraved portraits of Pequod's crew with accompanying text by Melville, Shakespeare and Milton."

Almost indiscernible small stain on the upper cover, previous owner Julia Kuroda's rubber-stamped name & address at the bottom edge of text block, still very good or better in near fine dust jacket with a trace of edge wear.
This copy from the library of Julia N. Kuroda, the wife of Rev. Andrew Y. Kuroda. The Kurodas were interned at the Thule Lake, California relocation camp after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor.
Kawabata was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1968 "for his narrative mastery, which with great sensibility expresses the essence of the Japanese mind."

Responding to an anonymously authored editorial published in the Central Courier of June 15, 1883, which is ascribed to then State Senator E.R. Sparks with the cooperation of editor Samuel Owen, Mr. Dickerson defends against a perceived attack on his father, Newton Dickerson, involving a lengthy business dispute: "The leading editorial headed "An Attack Upon Our Senator," looks very much like one of Bob Sparks' put up jobs Why don't you be a man and put your name to anything you write instead of trying to buy your editorials?" Includes a chapter on the "Father of Ragtime." The book is described by Kentucky Historian Laureate Dr. Thomas D. Clark as a "generous cut above most local histories. The ample documentation reflects the fact that the author has done her homework well."

Author Kirk presents a fascinating history of the club which was actually a social organization with no connection to hunting. Pooshee Plantation, where many club meetings were held, succumbed to the creation of Lake Moultrie in 1939.
