Gelatin silver print (20 x 30 in.). Archivally framed. Estate Edition, a limited edition of 10 copies, embossed and numbered.
While in this picture it is Frida's eyes that gaze lovingly up at Diego, Marcel and Ilse Sternberger's records paint a picture of another day that contrasted perfectly. Ilse recounted,
"Suddenly [Frida] admitted to being tired, and Rivera carried her upstairs to her four-poster bed – in which she did a lot of her painting, with the canvas affixed above her. "Frida will not come with us to the party," he said when he returned. "She has much pain today [sic]."
Ilse wondered aloud if it wouldn't be better to cancel al- together. "Oh no, no – we must go!" Diego insisted. I will just tell (sic) good-bye to Frida…" and he walked heavily up the stairs again.
Ilse recalled, "We waited – five minutes, ten… 'I'll see what's keeping Diego,' [Ilse] said, and followed him. The door to Frida's bedroom was open, and [Ilse] saw Rivera kneeling beside her bed, his large… Read More

Description:
Printed later by Clark. Gelatin silver gelatin print. 11 x 14 inches. Fine. Signed and inscribed by Edward Clark. Clark was one of the leading American magazine photographers of the twentieth century. In 1944 he joined Margaret Bourke-White, Alfred Eisenstaedt, W. Eugene Smith, and Philippe Halsman at LIFE magazine. His photographs soon became among the most famous in America. In 1958 LIFE assigned Clark for a story on Senator Kennedy, considered a likely presidential candidate. When the photographer asked for a view of Kennedy with their four-month-old baby, his wife Jacqueline objected that they would awaken her. Kennedy invited Clark upstairs, with Jackie protesting, but this charming photograph was the result. Jackie requested 75 copies "of that marvelous picture" to give to family and friends. After Kennedy became president in 1961, the delightful photograph was displayed in the Oval Office.

Description:
Origjnal cloth and scarce dust jacket with light wear. Mounted clippings with some offsetting. A very good copy.
FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING. Inscribed and signed by Kinsey in the year of publication.
"The Kinsey report was a cultural event of enormous consequence" (Edward Laumann).
The best-selling Kinsey report helped to usher in a revolution in sexual knowledge and mores. It challenged conventional beliefs, discussed previously taboo subjects, and showed what to some were surprising levels of premarital and extramarital sex. The report suggested that homosexual activity, thoughts, and feelings were more widespread than many thought and existed on a continuum, the "Kinsey scale."
Kinsey "established a solid academic reputation for his biology tests and his research in taxonomy and evolution … Kinsey and his staff collected over 18,000 interviews, and published Sexual Behavior in the Human Male in 1948 and Sexual Behavior in the Human Female in 1953 … Dr. Kinsey's name suddenly became… Read More

Description:
Albumen print (7 ½ x 10 in.), unmounted. Minor creasing, short closed tear, tone slightly pale but overall excellent. Framed. This fascinating photograph is a variant of the image shown in Gardner's Photographic Sketch Book of the War. In that image, a group of Union officers including the chief of artillery of the Army of the Potomac stands in the foreground, while five members of the mortar crew stand in the background. In the present photograph, shells have been moved to the foreground, and the full crew of nine men is present. The photographs are otherwise essentially identical.
The Dictator, a 13-inch seacoast mortar, was the largest weapon used during the siege of Petersburg. It could send a 225-pound explosive shell more than two miles. During its service in the siege lines, the Dictator fired 218 rounds at Petersburg and its defenses. The mortar was placed on a specially reinforced railroad flatcar, seen here, and run along a spur line of the City Point and Petersburg Railroad into various… Read More
