Presents a viewpoint long-lost to the modern reader. Kelton offers the reporting of news about the Indian in local newspapers from the 1840's to the 1890's. Some newspapers were even-handed in publishing Indian news. They were in the minority. The news reported from the rangers, forts & military personnel, to cities, towns and coummunity news with a main focus on Texas, but also information on New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma and other western states. Rare especially when signed.

Early Indian accounts taken from The Pioneer News-Observer which Kelton was editor, selecting original narratives from early western newspapers and periodicals.

Born in France in 1820, he came to Texas with Henri Castro in 1844 and lived in Castroville where he became acquainted with the Indians of the area by walking from Castroville to San Antonio. He resided in San Antonio until his death in 1906. Pronounced Jonteel. Paintings include El Alamo in 1844; Fandango ; Spanish Dance, San Antonio; Camp of the Lipans, Comanches on the War Path.

Chicago: Zimmerman. postcard. GOOD Condition.. Real photo postcard, verso canceled Feb 7 1920 with pencil message, one corner bent, light foxing. Shows a team of six horses pulling three canvas covered supply wagons with hills in the background. Measures 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches.

El Paso: Texas Western Press, 1997. First Edition. 7 maps, including one of West Texas Posts & Camps: 1879, 37 illus. and photographs, extensive notes, bibliography, index. Gold endpapers, dj in archival mylar. Author became the commanding officer or Company B, 10th Cavalryin 1870s while serving with this Black regiment in Fort Duncan. Numerous Indian raids would take them to Fort Stockton. He also became increadingly immersed in courts-martial as a prosecutor and court member, as well as a witness in two officer cases, one of which rocked the entire Army, that were tried in San Antonio.
