A superior copy inside and out, being a sterling condition hardcover copy, with unbruised tips, tight binding, and clean internals, showing only very slight shelf- and edge-wear; not ex-library, with neither underlining nor highlighting anywhere. Beautifully illustrated pictorial covers, embossed gilt lettering to title at cover, embossed label, gilt lettering to spine. Originally published in 1884 but without illustrations then again in 1900 with 94 watercolours by Joseph Pennell but that were reproduced in black-and-white. Preface to the 1900 edition is included here. Maps, plates, index and bibliography. Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
