This scarce original edition is offered despite problems of condition. 6 issues bound as one volume, not including original wraps or advertisements. Octavo, 10" tall, [2] + 620 + 4 engraved plate pages, quarter cloth over boards. A good copy only, given that the covers and fly-leaves are loose, the cloth back strip is partially missing, the boards are edge worn scuffed and worn through at the fore-corner tips--BUT the interior is in very good condition, paper clean, supple (pre-civil war paper was of a generally higher quality) only lightly yellowed, and relatively unfoxed. Still a good reading copy of this mostly original compendium of the culture in the middle of the 19th Century. A period time-capsule of the intellectual state of mind.

This set is in very good condition with minor handling, paper cream white. Box moderately edge worn.

A very good, sturdy hard cover with minor shelf wear and rubbing but some fraying started at the top of the back strip; hinges and binding soid, paper lightly yellowed, with a previous owner's inscription on the frontflyleaf. This volume is worth professional restoration by the removal of the library markings.

In a very good, moderately worn dust jacket, lightly soiled with one significant 1/4" chip at the top of the flap fold (internally taped), and with the original price.
